Moving Along

It's not quite autumn here, the highs have been in the high 80s, lower 90s. But it's amazing how much of a relief that is from the 99+ days we had for most of the summer.  Unfortunately our autumns, and springs too, seem to last for only a week or so before we go on to the next extreme.  I'm not ready for winter.

The lower temps have made the sewing room much more bearable in the afternoons, I don't have to turn down the air conditioning to work now. Which means I have been spending a lot more time in the sewing room.  This week the focus was to get all the blocks for the Scrappy Butterflies project sewn together.

I'm happy with how the final layout worked out.  Getting the borders added is the next step.  The goal is to have a finished quilt top by the end of the month.

Once Scrappy Butterflies was assembled, the rest of last week was spent on moving Unity (Bonnie Hunter) closer to finished.  The label was printed, rinsed and framed with fabric.  The binding was assembled, pressed and sewn to the quilt.  Now comes the hand sewing.

Unity is a larger quilt than I normally make, it's 108" long.  So there will be a lot of hand stitching on this one.  I managed to turn 2 corners yesterday.  Fingers crossed I can finish the hand stitching today. Unity will be my first finish since May of last year.

Weather is the same here, but I AM ready for the cold! :D The scrappy butterfly quilt is so cute. Is it your design or was there a pattern? I forgot. Wow I didn't realize Unity was that big!

We've had some lovely fall weather in the past week - warm days and chilly nights. Just how I like it. Putting that last stitch into the binding will feel wonderful. You colors choices for Unity were awesome!

It's fun to see how different people stitch their binding down; I usually work from the other side. We're going to be in the 70s all week!

Unity is just about almost practically a finished object! Hooray! Love the subtle chain for the butterflies.

I love your butterfly quilt, Kate! The chain layout and borders turned out great. Hooray for sewing the binding on Unity, too - although it might take awhile with that size! We are still in Oregon for the last couple days of our trip, and it is such a different environment. This morning it's foggy and sort of misty. A nice change from hot and dry!

It makes a huge difference to have the heat subside a bit doesn't it? Both projects look like they are making great progress. Enjoy the final stitches in Unity!

Wow! Your butterfly quilt top turned out beautifully. Now I'm anxious to see the finished Unity. It seems as if you've been working on that for a long time. It must feel good to be so close to a finish.

It is so nice that it starting to cool down even if it is in the low 90's or high 80's. Wow on your butterfly quilt, Kate! I love it!!! You had a great weekend in the sewing room. Have a great evening and happy quilting.
