Playing Catch Up

Thankfully the sewing room doesn't aggravate my shoulder, I was able to get in a solid afternoon of stitching time with no discomfort.  Since it's been about a week and half since any real stitching happened, it took me a bit to sort out where I was on things. The SAHRR is over for this year, but since it's up on the design wall in bits and pieces it was the easiest project to just jump back into.

The flying geese borders from week 4 are now completed and attached.  The spacer strips are cut, so that's the next step.  There are seven more square in a square blocks to make before assembly of the week 5 border can happen. Grad Girl asked if this quilt had a home.  It's intended for My Guy, but she may well talk him out of it.  We'll see.

Last week was spring break here and in Texas. Grad Girl had some time off so we went to visit for a long weekend. We lived southeast of Houston for 8 years, so College Station isn't that far from some of our old haunts. Old Baylor Park was one of common stops when we were out photographing bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush in the spring.  One of my favorite photos of Grad Girl and My Guy was taken there.  I convinced them both to pose near the same tree for an updated version.

The 20 years between these photos has just flown by.  We had a good visit. I'll share some of the wildflower photos later. As nice as some of them are, the photo on the right is my favorite from this trip.

My Guy suggested that I try raising the monitor screen to see if that helps with my shoulder issues.  I'm trying that this morning to see how it works, but I'll still limit my computer time to about an hour.  If that works, I'll try for longer tomorrow.

Linking up with Monday Design Wall and Patchwork & Quilts.

I can see why ownership of this quilt may be a negotiation, and as you point out, Grad Girl will probably win. What a wonderful photo of the two of them together. Your daughter looks so happy, and this photo will be priceless to all of you as years go by.

Glad you're healing even if the progress is slower than you'd like. I love the two photos! I've admired your SAHRR all along with its calming colorway.

I'm so glad you were able to get some sewing time in without it bothering your shoulder! Your SAHRR is looking great - I like how the flying geese border turned out. The trip to College Station sounds like fun, and I love the photos. Tell your Guy he hasn't changed one bit!

Your SAHRR is beautiful. I can see why your hubby and daughter may have a tussle over it. :D So glad the sewing room doesn’t aggravate your shoulder. And I love the two pics of your husband and daughter. Very cool!

It’s wonderful to see you are managing some sewing time. Your SAHRR is a real beauty and it’s understandable that Grad Girl might try to convince Your Guy to give it up. Thank you for sharing both photos. I can see why the beauty on the right is a favourite!

I wonder with whom your lovely SAHRR quilt will find its home?? Such lovely photos of your Your Guy and Grad Girl. How fun to recreate the same photo twenty years later.

I really like your SAHRR so far; I especially like the touch of green. I'm still trimming my square-in-a-square blocks, only I don't have a good reason for having stalled, only boredom trimming.

Wow your Guy hasn't really changed! Those photos are priceless. So you headed out to Washington County - so pretty, especially this time of year. Good luck with the quilt negotiation. ;) I don't blame them for both wanting it.

Those pictures are great! My how that tree has grown over the years. When I went to my doctor Wednesday, I told him I was ready to try PT for my shoulder, and he said to try something first. Since my shoulder hurts when I raise my arm up from the side, I am standing next to something shoulder pit high (I'm using the stairs), place my arm on the stair, bent or straight doesn't matter, and press my harm down on the stair to a count of 3 and do 3 reps. Build up as the pain lessens. I've only started, but will let you know if it works. Basically, I'm working the muscle opposite the one that is strained and hurting. I don't have a rotor cuff injury.

Love the pictures - so precious! I am sure he will happily let her have the quilt. It is coming along nicely. I love how balanced the colors/blocks are. Kate, it looks like the top bird is missing the beak, or is it just too light a fabric? I would use a dark marker to paint it in. Sending healing wishes and warm hugs.

Your SAHRR quilt is coming along nicely, I understand why there will be a battle to own it ;)) Precious photo, fun to have the same place 20 years later.
Take care, spare your shoulder. Hugs
