There was stitching going on for all 7 days this week. But most of it was in 15 minute sessions during the week. The binding for Blooms and Butterflies is finished. Hopefully I'll feel motivated enough to get pictures of that quilt sometime today. There was a bit of progress on the Scrappy Cofffee Cup quilt. That's most of what went out this week.
Fabric used this week: 0.52 yards
Fabric used year to date: 43.10 yards
Nothing in this week for a change.
Since being up and about just wasn't in the cards yesterday, I did spend some time working on a plan to use up the fabric that came in last week. This will be a quilt for the Scientist in Training (previously known as Drama Teen) using the Geek Chic line that came home with me last week.
Chemistry Geek Version 1 |
Chemistry Geek Version II |
Chemistry Geek Version III |
At the moment I'm leaning more towards Version III. Though Version II has possibilities. I'm still looking for ideas, none of these strike me as being "it".
Linking up with Quiltpaintcreate for this week's stash reports.

I like version one, but it's more about what appeals to her. Hearts may be too little girly for a young lady going out on her own. You know her best, you'll come up with something.
Hope you feel better today!
Version two reminds me of a chemist for some reason??? ARg...my husband has been stuffy (and a LOUD sleeper) all week. The seasons are changing...hope you feel better today. I wasn't half as productive as I wanted to be yesterday....but that's okay...today is a new day for me too.
I like version 1, personally. Have you thought about jars or breaker shapes? It wouldn't be hard to design - like the bottom 2/3 of a spool block, maybe. Or hexies appliqued on in the shapes of molecules. I love novelty quilts based on a theme and love to play with related block shapes that go with the theme.
You got me on this one--first I really thought 2 was the right one--then went back to 1 as hearts says alot about mother and daughter, but then I read the comment above this one and thought maybe the beaker shape would be cute--have fun designing and deciding--
enjoy the moments, di
Well, it's a hard choice, but I think I like Version II. Any of the above are going to make a great quilt though. I love the new "Scientist in Training" designation.
They are all wonderful designs, but #2 lets those wonderful prints shine. I have been a bit under the weather lately, too - change of seasons I think.
Hope you feel better soon. Sometimes it's when the stress lets up that we come down with something. I like Version II the best. Version III makes me think of frequency waves.
Sorry you aren't feeling well Kate. Hope you are better soon. I like II and III. I will probably use design I (with your permission) and make a smaller version with a new baby's initials.
I love the second one. What a fun project.
I've been looking for a social work type of pattern.
Best of luck with finding the "right"design for the "Scientist in Training!" Hope you are feeling better soon.
They are all nice in different ways. #1 can be interpreted two ways - one being the chemistry of love!
Hope you are feeling better today, Kate! I've had a day like that - just didn't feel like doing much. Your ideas for Scientist in Training's quilt are all fun, but I agree - version 3 is my favorite!
Hmm... I like the ideas floating for Chemistry. I'm sorry you're ill again; we have brutal headaches around here!
I'm sorry you're feeling crappy - I hope you feel better soon. Love those fabrics in your designs and I really like what you have designed so far. No. 2 is my fav so far. I know you'll find the right design and it will look fabulous!
Can you use the shape of the periodic table and use your text as sitting on top of the columns? I guess it depends on the orientation of the quilt, but I think it would worth a mock up.
Hope you feel better soon.
I like the third one! The first one seems a little busy -- maybe if you increased the sizes of the hearts?
Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well - hopefully it passes quickly. Can you figure out how to make beaker shapes instead of hearts? Might be over the top, but it would go with your theme!
I hope you are feeling better now Kate, you may be susceptible if you've been feeling a little down with Drama Queen going away. The Chemistry designs are lovely, I do like version one best although they are all wonderful.
As a chemical engineer, I love the chemistry quilt!
All versions are great, but I think #3 might be my favorite. Or #1. Did I mention they are all great? Hardest part might be choosing!
That quilt is going to be a big hit no matter which pattern you use. What about a combination of one and three? I'm behind reading my blogs and you've probably already started on something by now! Hopefully you're feeling better too. :)
They're all terrific designs. I think version 2 shows off the fabric line better. Can't believe she's no longer a DT and has become a SIT already!
My son is a PHD chemist...I love this quilt!
