Stash Report - December 18th

Only 7 days till Christmas!  Only 14 days till the new year!  I'm looking forward to the holidays.  I'm on vacation the next 2 weeks, so will have time to do a little baking, a lot of gift wrapping and maybe some sewing.  After Christmas I should be able to do a lot of sewing.

This week was hectic, which has been a pretty constant theme with me since about mid November.  Consequently, it was another week with very little sewing going on.  Even so, there was still a bit going out this week.

Used this week:  0.25 yards
Added this week:  0 yards

Used year to date:  53.58 yards
Add year to date:  70.12 yards

Net stashed for 2011:  16.54 yards

I'm still working on the borders for the Geisha quilt, those should be done today.  Then the top will get wrapped up for Christmas.  The purple and yellow quilt just needs borders, which I hope to get to after Christmas, then I can assemble it's back.  So I have a slim chance of making it back to the black before the end of the year.

Have you started thinking about your 2012 stash management goals?  I don't think I want to do another year of limiting my purchases, though I don't know that 70 yards is limiting.  I'm thinking a focus on using more would be a better way to approach my stash.  I'll be giving that some thought over the next couple of weeks.

That's it for me this week.  For more dashing through the stash, check out Patchwork Times

You've done a great job managing your stash! Actually, I've been giving my stash quite a bit of thought. I'm considering a huge purge. The fabrics stashed have been mainly given to me from others who haven't sewn in 20+ years. Since I didn't choose most of it, I feel it's stifling my creativity. ☺ A purge and chance to re-focus should cure that. Happy Sunday!

I, too, am on vacation the next two weeks and hope that I can also make a little more headway into the stash. But my daughter is home for Christmas, too.

Can't wait to see the finished Geisha quilt. Doing a stash report this year was certainly eye-opening. I haven't decided how to limit myself next year. I definitely need to do better at using my stash.

You're doing great and I have always thought of these stash reports as more stash management vs an attempt to use up everything in the closet.

Over the next few weeks I'll be checking out my stash closets and straightening them up. Sometimes a simple reorganization helps in refocusing efforts. I know I need more specific colors to fill in my stash.

You've done well this year. I didn't manage my stash this year and blew out on the purchases. I'm thinking a purge of some of my fabric would be a good thing. After making the cute bag utilising some of my ugly scraps last week, it had me thinking I could try to incorporate them in more projects instead. Either way I'm going to try to use up more of my stash and be a bit more selective in what I buy.
Hope you really enjoy your time off.

Well I wont be making any wild proclamations about only buying 100 yards of fabric that's for sure because I suck at not buying fabric.

Im going to work out what I have and what I need backing for first and then decide how I'll approach my stash in 2012.

With every stash report in 2011 I have marvelled at your will power Kate. You've done so well!

I love tracking my stash use. I had no idea that O rbought over 100 yards into the house this year. Lots was given to me by my mom from an estate and I won at 15 yards on blogs. There are several large UFOs that I need to finish up and then I have several others set aside. I think I will focus on working with what I have and buying what I need to get some finishes.
