The sashing on the front will be same pink fabric as in the first block and the back sashing will that green dot from the bottom block. Attaching the sashing strips to the first block wasn't a problem, but there were issues when I tried to attach the second block to the sashing. I was having problems with skipped stitches, then I realized that the walking foot wasn't flat. Once I figured out how to fix that, things went smoothly and the first row is finished, including the between rows sashing.
Once I figured out the skipped stitches this went together pretty quickly. Dealing with the sashing on the back was a bit more of a challenge.
It looks OK from a distance, but close up you can see it's not perfect. I've got the sashing strips pinned to the second row, but had to stop for dinner last night and didn't get back it it. The plan is to work on it this afternoon once all my morning chores are done. I won't finish it this month I don't think, but any progress is good.

Your connected row of blocks looks great, Kate! I love the pink and green prints you're using for this. I always appreciate that blog readers won't see my work up close - no need to worry about perfection, lol!
Looks like you're making good progress!
Sometimes, I think skinny strips are harder to sew than wider strips. Yours are looking great! :)
Any progress is good, and you did a lot! I love the pink sashings, your blocks are shining. These two rows are beautiful! Thank you for sharing them and linking up.
It’s looking good!
It is so interesting to see how these blocks are put together. I have never tried the quilt as you go method. Gorgeous pink and green sashing fabrics you are using , Kate. I just love this project. Happy quilting. Hugs.
We are darn critical of our own work, aren't we. You could hand sew the backing pieces down... but I wouldn't do it. By the end of the quilt your back stitching will look great. Keep it up.
You might be having issues, but I sure can't tell - it just looks pretty to me!
I'm glad you were able to figure out what was causing the skipped stitches; that can be a tricky problem to solve sometimes!
This is looking really good. Great job so far!! The alternated floral backing is such a nice idea. Glad your trip to Houston was a success, in spite of heat and humidity. I've only been there once and that was my take away impression - hot and humid. LOL
I can't see any issues. I agree, we are so critical of our own work, aren't we? I've never tried quilt as you go. Good luck!
they look good to me - you must have been to Texas to see the daughter - I hope you had fun I'm trying to get some blog reading in after a short time away from the computer
omg, I have no idea why, but I have never thought of doing quilt as you go on any thing but string blocks! That sure makes me feel dumb, but also makes me want to get busy on a quilt as you go with other blocks.
