PHD In 2020: The March Update

This year is supposed to be the year of finishes. To help with the motivation, I've joined up with Quilting Gail's PHD in 2020.

Unfortunately, there's not much of an update since the mid-February report.

No finishes, but still no new starts for 2020. At least I'm not losing ground.

There has been a bit of progress.  The excess batting and backing has been trimmed off Twinkle Stars.

A darker orange was found to replace the yellow orange in the original fabric pull for the binding.

So now I just need to cut the binding strips and get them sewn together.  There should be a finish this month.

Winter Quilt Along should be the next finish. I was supposed to be traveling this week, so asked Trudy not to send the quilt back till later this week.  It should be back sometime early next week.  Maybe I'll finish two quilts this month?  Probably not, but it doesn't hurt to dream a little.

Next up to be finished is the Mosaic Mystery Quilt.  I've got the dark purple strips cut for the second border.

But haven't started sewing them on yet.  Mosaic Mystery isn't on the UFO list, it's one of the mystery quilts started last year that didn't finish till after the start of this year.  I'd still like to get it finished off before this year's Meadow Mist Mystery starts up. I really enjoy Cheryl's mysteries, so did plan to join in with that mystery stitch along this year.  Hopefully, I'll have a few finishes before it starts so I'm not going backward.

All good progress, just no finishes yet.  So my UFO list looks exactly as it did the middle of February.

Hopefully by the end of March there will be some updates.  Linking up with Quilting Gail for the March 2020 PHD update and with Dreamworthy Quilts for the 2020 UFO challenge.

January Report on PHDs and UFO Challenges

My focus for 2020 is to

up some UFOs and WIPs. My project list currently sits at 26, I'd like to whittle that down to some number below 20 before the end of the year.  To help keep me motivated, I'm playing along with Quilting Gail's PHD program,

plus both Dreamworthy Quilts and American Patchwork and Quilting's Facebook 2020 UFO challenges.

So the PHD update is easy, there's no change from the first of January.

Which that's not a bad thing. There are no finishes, but there's no new starts so far this year either. So I'm at least neutral as of the end of January.

Though there aren't any finishes, there has still been progress on a few UFO/WIPs that are on the challenge lists.

Twinkle Stars has gone from needing borders to being sent out for quilting.

Hopefully Twinkle Stars will show up as a finish by the end of February.

Another project on the list, The Winter Quilt Along, went from sewn together rows to a finished quilt top.

The backing fabric has been picked out, it just needs to be cut and assembled. This project should finish up not too long after Twinkle Stars is finished. Fingers crossed that by the end of February, there will be two finishes off the UFO list.

That's the progress for January.  Linking up with the January PHD report over at Quilting Gail's and with Dreamworthy Quilts for the Monthly UFO Challenge.

2020 Stitching Plans and Strategies

Happy New Year!  After a slow start to my new year's day, I'm getting ready to head to the sewing room for an afternoon of nothing but stitching. My word for 2020 is "Finish".  As of today, there are 26 in progress projects on my list, a record.  The goal is to whittle that down to less than ten. That probably won't happen in one year, but I'd like to get that number back into the teens this year.  I do better with a plan of attack and better yet if I've posted about my plan.

Here's my 2020 list of quilts to finish.
One of my strategies is to play along with America Patchwork and Quilting's Facebook UFO Challenge.  There are two other monthly UFO programs I'm participating in; Quilting Gail's 2020 PhD program and Dreamworthy Quilt's UFO Challenge.  I'm using the same list for all three. The American Patchwork and Dreamworthy quilts each select a number from the list to work on, I'm not going to follow along with that part. My plan is to start with number one on my list and just go numerically.

So the quilt to be finished for January is Twinkle Stars.

It needs one last set of borders, a back made, prepped for quilting, packaging and sent out for quilting.  That should all be doable for this month. So that's my UFO for the month, as well as my One Monthly Goal for January.
