Rainbow Scrap Challenge: The Dark Side

It's been cold, wet and rainy much of this week.  Autumn has definitely made it's appearance.  On the one hand it's nice, there is more reason to spend time in the sewing room. On the other, the earlier sunset seems to sap my energy to do anything.

I did find the energy last week to finish off September's dark neutral blocks for the Squared Away Sampler.

 Squared Away Sampler
designed by Mari (The Academic Quilter) and Angela (Soscrappy)

I changed up the blocks just a bit from Angela's and Mari's version.  This block would make a really cool quilt, but for now I'm stopping at three.  There has been progress on the October blocks, but not enough to be photo worthy.  I'm deviating from Angela's dark and sage green theme for October by using red-violet for my blocks.  Hopefully, I'll have something to show on that front next week.

Happy stitching this weekend.  Linking up with Angela at Soscrappy for this week's Rainbow Scrap Challenge.   And linking up with Oh Scrap on Sunday.

That variation would make a great quilt! Have fun getting to the finish with red-violet.

Pretty blocks, dark side has sometimes good sides!

Change is good, as your blocks well prove. One of my September blocks was different too, and I’m using it. Can’t wait to see all your blocks together!

Great looking blocks. It’s definitely fall here too, although our falls are very nice...until they aren’t. For now, we’re seeing some very nice weather, if a little blustery.

I like your blocks and the colors you used are really neat--I also like to change things up now and then--think it is good for our brains too!!!!
I am the last 2 blocks behind and no kites the last 2 months--some day maybe--
enjoy, di

I like the look of your blocks. It gets dark early here too, and throws everything off for awhile. I'm slowly getting used to it.

We had the dark, cold, and wet here last week, too, and it's amazing how it affects your mood and energy level! I was awfully glad to see the sun come out yesterday afternoon. Pretty fabric in the blocks you're showing today! It will be fun to see your October blocks, too.

I haven't done my September SA blocks yet. Your variation (and a couple of others I've seen) are making it hard for me to decide which way to choose!

Love your dark fabrics, especially the ones with a pop of color!

Your blocks are coming along! The change from summer to fall can be brutal! The worse part is when it goes from the 80's to the 60's for me!

What an interesting variation you created. LOVE it!! You are right. A set of these blocks would make a wonderful quilt!

Great job on your blocks. I like how you made them your own. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
