WIPs - Slow Green Growth

It's hard to believe it's already June, the half way point in the year.  I've limited my efforts to just 4 WIPs so far in 2015.  One of those is finished, but I still haven't gotten the photos taken.  Grand Illusion lacks just one block, four sashing blocks and the borders.  I've been playing in EQ trying to come up with borders that will tie that quilt together, but not be as busy as the border Bonnie designed to go with it. So far I've come up with a couple of options.

Grand Illusion, A Bonnie Hunter Mystery

My working images aren't perfect, but this approach at least gives me a quick visual to decide if I like the direction or not without taking all the time to create blocks and sashing in EQ.  I'm leaning towards the blue and white border on the left at the moment.

Most of my sewing room time has been focused on Grand Illusion because I'm ready to get it off the design wall.  Consequently, there hasn't been a lot of progress on the Twinkle Star Blocks. I've only finished one block in the last week.

Twinkle Stars, Tutorial by Andrea Feldbush of Soscrappy

The last of the green Twinkle Star blocks are in various stages of construction over by the sewing machine.  I should have all 6 done by the weekend.  Then it will be time to select the teal fabrics for this month's stars.

I like both of your border ideas, but the first one seems to have an awful lot of white. Have you tried adding another color there?
Your Twinkle Stars are gorgeous.

I agree with Julie about the white. Maybe using a different color from the quilt along with the blue? The design of the one on the right seems to be better than the checkerboard on the left.

I have no opinion on the borders; however, I love these blocks! :)
What did you decide?

I like the white border, but would echo the flower blades in color. That skinny inner strip in black for a stop. The white and pink followed by the outer in either the green or the black.

I'd chuck another colour in that border with the white too ...looking good though !

Hi Kate the s aleft border makes me think of it as a pink quilt and the other a green quilt ???? Not much help is it LOL> Love love those stars it looks like you a re having lots of fun with those, my challenge this year was to finish WIP's too, I have only finished one so far and yes it is 1/2 way through the year!!!!!! Cheers Glenda

I also like the border on the left, Grand Illusion itself is quite busy, so I would tend to choose a border that would tone it down a bit, but that is me. I love the twinkle star block and imagine that will be quite a stunning quilt.

I prefer the look of the border on the left.
BUT.
I think there is too much white and the border is too big for the pieces in the quilt. Love the design but make it smaller

Its always so hard, I would do the second border but with black instead of green. It's hard to decide until you've seen the option visually. Love your quilt and I know it will work with whatever border you opt for.

Interesting choices for borders! I like the one on the right, myself. I think the complexity of that one matches the quilt center better. Congrats on getting so close to the final stage!

Love your blog; your quilts have vibrancy and life to them and you are encouraging me to get out all my WIP. I like the border on the left too. Trying to decide if I want to take the plunge and purchase EQ.
