Weekend Stitching: Not Much To Show

It was a busy weekend, with not as much stitching as normal.  Saturday was just busy with a bit of work stuff that had to get done.  Sunday, My Guy and I made the trek east to see our Scientist in Training.  She's doing great with the college transition, but didn't think she'd get home for a few weeks due to her test and work schedule.  We had a fun Sunday, even met up with an unexpected play mate from the SITs youth.

Finding Optimus Prime on one edge of town was a bit of a surprise, but the girls had fun with it.  SIT's two roommates went out to lunch and then on a tour of the town with us as none of them had been off campus much during the month since school started.

So it was a nice, but busy weekend.  There was some sewing time, but there's not much to show as most of the progress has been on the SIT's new dorm room quilt (which is under wraps till Christmas). Other than that,  I've made a start on the HSTs for this year's Meadow Mist Design mystery

There's 20 of the seventy something HSTs needed for this project.  So far, I'm really liking my fabric choices.  So lots of stitching and trimming without much to show at this point.

Stash Report for Week 45 of 2016

It's been one of those weeks.  Between the evenings we had something going on and the evenings I went to bed early, not a lot got done in the sewing room.  Some weeks are just that way and it's OK.  I sew to maintain some sanity, it's insane to beat myself up because it's not working for me.  But even though the sewing room only saw me for three days this week, there's still a bit of fabric going out.

Used last week:  0.79 yards
Used year to date: 51.41 yards
Added year to date:  47.59 yards
Net used in 2016: 3.82 yards

My net used will take a hit next week.  I had to order some fabrics to finish up a few projects and couldn't resist the temptation to add to my background fabric stash.  I'm OK with that too.  Even if the added is more than the used, the incoming to the stash is way down from where it was a couple of years ago.  It's about maintaining balance while still having the right fabrics in the stash closet.

The weather here has been pretty spectacular.  Unfortunately, the leaves aren't changing much, too warm I guess.  But the sunrises have been pretty.

And it's been nice walking at sunset.  You can get a different set of back lit images then.

Have a great week.  You can see more stash reports over at Patchwork Times.

Stash Report for Week 44 of 2016

Wow, just one more day in October.  It always seems like the last part of the year goes a lot faster than the first part of the year.  Supposedly we've fixed how long a second is, but it sure doesn't seem that way by the time October rolls around.  I'm not ready for the holiday season and it's just about here!

For some reason, it was just hard to get into the sewing room this week.  I didn't do so hot on making time to stitch.

Days in the sewing room this week:  4 out of 7 days
Days in October 25 out of 29 days
Days in 2016: 240 out of 303 days

Thankfully I spent all of last Sunday in the sewing room or the stash report would be pretty anemic.

Used last week:  0.85 yards
Used year to date:  50.62 yards
Added year to date:  47.59 yards
Net used in 2016:  3.03 yards

Whoohoo on 50 yards out for the year!  I've only surpassed that mark twice in the last 7 years.  Not sure I'll have a record year for stash usage, but I'll be close.  So that's good news for this year.  Plus I've managed to stay in the black for most of the year.  So I'm pretty happy with my stash busting efforts for 2016.

I'm linking up with Patchwork Times for this weeks stash report.   Signing off on this week's stash report with a shot of yesterday's sunrise.  The light this time of year is so pretty.

Stash Report - Week 38 of 2016

One of the advantages of walking early in the morning, besides the fact that you can mark it off your list for the day, is the gorgeous sunrises you can witness.

This morning's was pretty spectacular.

It wasn't a very sunny week, outside or inside.  The shoulder pain returned this week, limiting both computer time and sewing time.  Thankfully it was feeling better by Friday, so I was able to get in at least my 15 minutes of sewing time for the last couple of days.

Days with 15 minutes of stitching time this week:  4 out of 7 days
Days in September:  12 out of 17 days
Days in 2016:  205 out of 261 days

I've been working on adding borders and making a backing, so the outgoing stash number still looks pretty good.

Used last week:  1.37 yards
Used year to date:  45.07 yards
Added year to date:  33.75 yards
Net used in 2016:  11.32 yards

We'll see how things look next week.  The urge to do some stash refreshing was to big to resist.  All I can say is that Connecting Threads needs to slow down on introducing such pretty new fabric lines.  Plus, I've had a run of luck with blog drawings lately.  I'm sure there will be some stash additions on that front soon too.

Stash Report Week 36 of 2016

It was a slow week in the sewing room.  A lingering shoulder injury made doing much of anything just not fun.  Thankfully the shoulder was feeling much better yesterday, so I'm hoping to get some time in the sewing room today and tomorrow.  However there's not much movement on the stash this week, well least not going out.

Used last week:  0.39 yards
Used year to date:  39.02 yards
Added this week:  1 yard (4 fat quarters)
Added year to date:  33.75 yards
Net Used in 2016:  5.27 yards

I almost forgot about the 4 fat quarters that came home yesterday.  No photo because I'm not sure where they ended up after our shopping trip yesterday.

The shoulder problem didn't keep me out of the sewing room or off the computer completely, but I had to limit my time just 15 minutes each day.  I got some cutting done and finished selecting the fabrics for Bejeweled.

Days with 15 minutes of stitching time this week:  7 out of 7 days
Days in August 26 out of 31 days
Days in September 3 out of 3
Days in 2016: 196 out of 247 (a 79.4% average)

It's amazing how just 15 minutes a day helps keep projects moving.

That's pretty much it for the stash report this week.  I'm linking up with Patchwork Times as usual.  If that's what you came for you can stop now.  The weather here has been gorgeous for the last couple of weeks, very productive to some long walks with the camera.  With all the rain, things here are still green and the wildflowers are still blooming.  Here's some of the late summer pretties that are blooming.

Orange Zinnia

Flowering Spurge with a Crab Spider

For those in the US, have a great Labor Day.  Hope you get in lots of family and stitching time.

Stash Report: Week 35 of 2016

I'm not sure where this week went.  We've had a lot going on in the evenings.  Parent night was Monday.  It's a bit of a jolt to think that was our last one for Drama Teen.  I worked late one night and then had a girls night out with DT another evening.  That didn't leave much time for stitching this week.  Most of what's going out of the stash this week happened last Sunday.

Used last week:  1.33 yards
Used year to date:  38.63 yards
Added year to date:  32.75 yards
Net used in 2016:  5.88 yards

For me that's a pretty good week.  I should get to the backing for the Zombie quilt this week.  That will bump up those outgoing numbers nicely.  There wasn't much time spent in the sewing room, but there's been some time spent in EQ working out the piecing for the Zombie back and playing with the fabric placement in the next graduation quilt.  That counts towards my 15 minutes of stitching time this week.  Good thing or else this week's report would be pretty minimal.

Days with 15 minutes of stitching time this week:  6 out of 7 days
Days in August:  22 out of 27 days
Days in 2016:  189 out of 240 days

Unfortunately there has not been an opportunity to sew this weekend.  We've been in Kansas City attending a funeral for one of My Guy's brother-in-laws.  If you've been watching the weather, KC received about 5 inches of rain Friday night, that made driving difficult to say the least.  The storms rolling in over the plains were pretty impressive to watch, not so fun to be driving in.

There were tornado watches all around Friday night, but we didn't have any tornadoes.  It hit a lot worse north of here.

That's it for me this week.  Linking up with Patchwork Times for this week's stash report.

Stitching Interruptus (Otherwise Known as Spring Break)

It's been over a week since my last blog post, mainly because I've not had anything stitchy to report on. I still don't have anything stitchy to write about because last week was spring break.  Drama Teen, her BFF and I were off

beach bumming in Galveston, TX, though the photo is actually of Surfside beach.  Surfside is actually better for swimming than the Galveston beaches.  When we lived in Texas, our house was about 20 minutes from this beach.

We rented a historic bungalow a few blocks from the Seawall in Galveston.

It was a great little place on quiet street, but close enough that we could walk to some of the best restaurants in Galveston.  If you've never eaten at Guido's, you've definitely missed some of the best seafood to be found on the Gulf Coast.

There were amusement parks to visit,

Rides at the Pleasure Pier on Galveston Island

ferries to ride,

Ferry between Galveston Island and the Bolivar Peninsula.

museums to visit,

Butterfly Garden at the Houston Museum of Natural History

And of course time for a coffee break with a good book.

It was a very enjoyable week away from it all.  We got back on Sunday and I promptly boarded a plane and headed back to Houston, TX on a business trip.  So now that I'm scheduled to be  home for awhile, stitching and posting should get back to a more normal pace.  We are off work for Good Friday.  My plan is to spend some time in the sewing room, I'm in desperate need of an attitude adjustment and some significant stitching time should do the trick.  I should get going on that if I plan to have anything to post for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge tomorrow.  Have a very happy Easter.  If you don't celebrate Easter, have a wonderful weekend.

Stash Report - Week 2 of 2016

It's 9 F (-13 C) this morning.  Thankfully we have no place to go today and can stay in out of the cold.  It wasn't quite as cold yesterday when we ventured out for part 2 of Drama Teen's birthday celebration of lunch with friends followed by ice skating.  It had snowed in Tulsa overnight and the drive down was quite pretty.

The photo looks like it was taken in black and white, but that's actually a color shot.  If it hadn't been for the snow, it would have looked quite dreary.

My sewing time this week has been spent learning how to paper piece those Vintage Dress blocks.  I don't have one of those finished, so the fabric going out this week is just 3 Allietare blocks from Monday's design wall post

Used last week:  0.40 yards
Used in January:  0.68 yards
Used year to date:  0.68 yards
Purchased year to date:  0 yards
Net used for 2016:  0.68 yards

Still no fabric in for the year, so the fabric diet is holding for now.  Last year I didn't buy any fabric till July.  Since I've got a few  quilts to make this year, I'm not sure I'll last that long as I'm already fairly certain I need to find a medium purple for Zombies in Paris.

This year I'm also tracking how many days I manage to make it to the sewing room for at least 15 minutes.  The more I'm in the sewing room, the better chance of having a reduction in the stash and the UFO pile.  It was a good week on that front too.

15 minute stitching days this week:  7 days
15 minute stitching days in January:  9 days
15 minute stitching days in 2016:  9 days

That's the summary of my stitching efforts this week.  How did yours go?  You can check out how other fabric diets are going over at Patchwork Times.

Stash Report - Week 38 of 2015

Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous.  Which was doubly nice because it was also time for the company picnic.  We had a great time catching up with everyone's family, eating bar-b-q, and just enjoying the pretty weather.  Not a lot of stitching got done consequently, but it was such a pretty day it seemed a shame to waste it playing indoors.

There was some stitching this week.  Not much, but some, which is definitely better than none.

Used last week:  0.17 yards
Used in September:  0.87 yards
Used year to date:  29.14 yards
Purchased year to date:  10.25 yards
Net used for 2015:  18.89 yards

Hopefully I'll break the 30 yard mark before the month is out.  Though at the rate I'm going, that may be wishful thinking.

The stash report wasn't spectacular, but the sunsets and sunrises this week have been.  Last night's was gorgeous.

Love all those yellow, pinks and oranges.

I'm linking up with the stash report over at Patchwork Times.  Then I have to get going on the laundry.
