Tackling the Bonnie Hunter Unfinished Mystery Quilts

If you've followed me for any length of time you probably know I have a week spot for Cheryl Brickey's Meadow Mist Designs mystery quilts and Bonnie Hunter's annual mystery quilt alongs. I've been sewing with Bonnie's mysteries since 2013. That year was her Celtic Solstice mystery. It's still in pieces with a few blocks made. It's on my 2026 project list. Not sure I'm going to get that far.

I've started 15 of Bonnie's mysteries and finished 7 of them.  Her 2024 mystery was Old Town.  It's one step closer to being finished.

The borders were added over the weekend and it's now a finished quilt top. When I bought that teal fabric, I wasn't sure how to use it. It worked really well as the accent color in this quilt.  Rather than pink, I switched to gold, which was one of the accent colors in the teal print. Not my normal color palette, but I do really like how this one turned out.

Old Town now joins the 14 other quilt tops waiting to be quilted in the spare closet.

I do have a plan to tackle getting at least some of these tops to finished quilts this year. I'm working on quilting Chilhowie (the 2022 Bonnie Hunter mystery) with my walking foot. I've started but it's going to take a few weeks to finish.  Some of the quilts I am going to get professionally quilted.  Hopefully between the two efforts I can whittle down the to be quilted list a bit.

Linking up with the usual Monday linky parties: Patchwork & Quilts and Sew & Tell Monday.

Congratulations on getting the Old Town quilt top finished! Do you have much of the teal fabric left?

The interesting thing about BH quilts to me is all the secondary designs that form when the blocks and sashing are put together. It's fun to look at yours and see what is going on. Question about the ones you haven't finished, like Celtic Solstice - do you lose interest in them or are you motivated to finish? Old Town is beautiful - I love your color choices!

Well, wow, do I like the BH mystery quilt in the first photo. So rich. The second one, now a top (yay) is also very striking, and the teal fabric for the border is perfect. Don’t you love it when your stash serves you well?!

Congrats on getting Old Town to the flimsy stage. Maybe a couple of the other mysteries could become runners or wall hangings, using the parts you have made already. I've been saving the BH mystery clues for many years and have done just 4 of them.

Old Town looks great. After sandwiching quilts last week, I can’t say I envy you those 14 tops for quilting. You’ve been busy!

Wow, that is quite an accomplishment. I love the colors you used, and I've been in love with that teal fabric for awhile.

WOW, you really are faithful to those two QAL's! I saw the Meadow Mist announcement and thought of you. I also thought of me but with our current chaos (moving/building), better not. (Besides, there's always that flying geese one that I have NOT forgotten!)

I've followed Bonnie for years and even took a workshop from her. I've started several of her mysteries, including Celtic Solstice, which I gave to my granndson. I didn't use her final border, though. I stopped doing them a few years ago. You're making good progress on yours.

You could cut the quilts to be quilt in half if you made double sided quilts. All my Bonnie mysteries have another Bonnie mystery on the reverse side. Lovely..
