To Do Tuesday for the Week of 7/6/2021

This last week went pretty quickly.  Having time off for the holiday has been nice. I took today off as well, the plan is for a nothing but stitching day to get a jump on this week's To Do List.  Time off last week helped make short work of last week's to do list.

  • Morewood Mystery: Start cutting and assembling backing
  • Cabins and Fans: Continue assembling row 5
  • Unity: Make HSTs for clue 6 as leader and enders

Three for three is a good week. Progress was made and that's my goal each week, to just keep moving a project along.  This week's To Do List looks pretty similar.

Morewood Mystery:  Finish assembling backing

The backing is made from 4 panels of two different fabrics.  I'm hoping to get the back assembled today.

Cabins and Fans:  Finish row 5 and start on row 6

The last block in row 5 is red-violet.  If I get in a full day of stitching I should be able to check this one off today.

Unity: Continue making HSTs for step 6

This is the last block needed for the top border.  I should get that made and the border sewn on and get a good start on the blocks for the last border in step 7. There is only one more step left in the project.  I just might get Unity assembled before the end of the year.

Macaron Mysery: Shop stash for fabrics

I've pulled three palettes so far.  Of these three the pink palette is my favorite with the gray/black and red a close second.  Pulling fabric for a new project is always fun, I like considering the possibilities.  Cutting instructions won't come out till next month, so I can play and dither for a few more weeks before I have to pick one to go forward with.

That's my list for this week.  Linking up with ChrisKnits for this week's To Do Tuesday.   Good luck with your to do list this week.

Contemplating a New Start

Last year and this year the focus has been on getting quilts off the UFO list.  A total of 9 quilts have been finished since January of 2020.  So the focus is working.  There were only three new starts last year with none so far this year, so the UFO list is down 6 quilts. There is such a sense of accomplishment with each project that comes off the list. But trying to work only on UFOs can get boring and demotivating.  To combat that the 2021 quilting plan allows me four new starts.

The first new project on the 2021 allowed list is the Meadow Mist Designs mystery quilt along, Macaron Mystery

Cheryl's mystery started this month with the fabric requirements.  Next month she'll put out the cutting instructions.  One clue a month is a good speed for me.  This will be the 6th Meadow Mist Designs mystery quilt along for me.

One of my favorite things about mystery quilt alongs is playing in the stash to find the fabrics.  I did some of that before the holiday weekend kicked off.  This year's mystery uses less than a yard of focus fabrics, so I can really scour the stash for left overs.  My goal this year is to use a color palette that's not blue, green and purple, which seems to be my go to color palette lately.  Here's the three fabric pulls I've accumulated so far.

I think the black, gray, red and white would make a pretty dramatic quilt.  The red is the only left over fabric in this palette.

The red, white, and gray would make a pretty vivid quilt.  There are three left over fabrics in this fabric pull, the red and white print, the light gray x's and the darkest red.

I've made mostly pink quilts before, but its been a while. Left over fabrics in this pull include the white on white, the lightest pink and the gray stars.

So that's the first three fabric pulls.  I'm also contemplating the brown/gold, blue/yellow, blue/green stash. Blue makes up the largest part of my stash and it's my favorite color.  So in spite of trying to avoid blue, I may well end up going that direction.  I have till August 5th to decide on the final fabric pull. It's fun pulling together the different palettes so I'll be playing around with different combinations right down to the wire.

Post script: Replacing Feedburner for email subscriptions to the blog has been a bit error prone. I hope the bugs are worked out now. Fingers crossed you get two emails from the blog today.  If that works out, I'll turn off Feedburner. Assuming I can get that right, today should be the only day with two emails.

Stitching Stuff: Week 27 of 2021

Happy Independence Day to those in the US. We'll be hanging out with family today, always a good time with that crew.  We are taking some time off to make the long holiday weekend even longer.  It's helped me find a bit more stitching time this week.

  • 15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
  • 15 minute days/June = 27/30 days
  • 15 minute days/July =  3/3 days
  • 15 minute days/2021 = 158/184 days
  • Success rate = 85.87%
So another good week.  Work has calmed down significantly making it a lot easier to get my stitching time in each day.  I'm back on track with my goal to stitch at least 85% of the time.  Fingers crossed that I can maintain that for the rest of the year.

Added later: I'm trying out MailChimp as the replacement for FeedBurner.  An email went out this morning making it clear I didn't get it set up right the first time.  After some time with the help menu, I think its set up correctly now.  The test email went out OK.  Fingers crossed that tomorrows email goes out with the right content. Sorry for the beginners error.

So how did your stitchy week work out?

Photo Challenge Week 1

This is a non-quilting post (mostly), so if you are only interested in the quilty stuff you can stop reading now. If you like photographs, you should stick around.   My other hobby, the one that I share with My Guy, is photography.  I'll add a few non-quilt photos here and there, but I've really been neglecting my photography, much to the sadness of My Guy.  He really enjoys it when we are both out taking photos. So for Father's Day one of his gifts was this deck of cards.

The plan is to pull a new idea card each Friday after dinner.  And we each have till dinner the next Friday to come up with a photograph that meets the challenge.  The Scientist in Training will play along as she can (school regularly throws a wrench into her free time activities).

Week #1 Challenge (6/25/2021)

I really hate photos of myself, so this was a really hard challenge for me.

I'm hoping the brilliant colors of Cabins and Fans are a bigger pull in the photo than I am.

What do you think of My Guy's submission?

Maybe a bit creepy?  Definitely different, which was his goal.

The Scientist in Training does selfies all the time.

She's showing off her rainbow heart shirt that she embroidered herself.

My Guy drew the card for this week just after dinner this evening.

Week #2 Challenge (7/2/2021)

Hmm, I'm going to need to think about that one a bit.  Next week's photos should be entertaining, but possibly pretty creepy too.
