Weekend Stitching

The heat continues, not surprising since it's August. Definitely wiser to stay in and stitch then go out and deal with the heat. I spent both weekend afternoons in the sewing room.  On the the to do list was to finish up a few more masks.

Mask pattern from Laundry Basket Quilts

This is most of what I planned to make. The darker pink and the multicolor dots on black are for the Scientist in Training.  The dark green and the dark blue at the top are reworked from the first masks I made with elastic.

This was the original face mask pattern.  My Guy never really liked the elastic in these masks and much prefers the other version with ear loops made from T-shirt strips. This first set of masks were made in April of 2020. Who knew we'd still be wearing masks to work more than a year later?  The weekly epidemiology report for the state of Oklahoma showed a decrease in new cases for last week, hopefully that means we'll see things start to improve.

All the scrappy butterfly blocks have been framed and are up on the small design wall.

Scrappy Butterflies
Block is available in EQ 8 Block Library

The strips are cut for the 9 patch alternating blocks,  assembling those blocks is the next step for this project.

Linking up with Monday Making and Design Wall Monday.

I keep thinking I should make a few more masks for us too, but haven't done it yet. Your butterfly blocks look beautiful!

Your masks are pretty! (I, too, can't believe we are still wearing them, or wearing them again, since I stopped for awhile earlier in the summer.) Love those colorful butterflies - I'm glad to see you working on their next step.

The masks look good. At first glance, I thought I was looking at a quilt block. Last year I made a few seasonal masks, hoping I’d only need them for one season. Yesterday, I was eyeing them again and thinking how great it will be to switch to something other than the one I’ve been wearing most of the time since this all started. I really hoped we’d be out o this by now, but didn’t really believe it.

The nine patches should go quickly after the butterfly blocks, which look complicated. I love the butterflies, and look forward to seeing the quilt top with both blocks combined. Thanks for joining Design Wall Mondays linky party. Hugs, Judy

Those butterflies are so cute! I love the variety of colors and they look so good together. The extreme heat seems to have left us finally, and we're enjoying cool nights and normal daytime temps. It kind of feels like fall, but I'm almost afraid to say so.

For now I'm wearing the disposable blue paper masks, mostly because I can't bear the thought of making any more masks right now.

I know I need to make a few more masks but I haven't buckled down to do it yet. The scrappy butterflies look great. I hope you have a nice week.
