A Bit of This and That

I'm definitely not ready for Monday, sometimes weekends just aren't long enough.  The Scientist in Training came home for the weekend. Classes start up tomorrow. She wanted to get in one more trip home before homework ramps up.

I didn't get in much stitching time.  My allergies were in full force Saturday, so a long nap took the place of an afternoon in the sewing room. Necessary errands and other housekeeping chores kept me out of the sewing room till late afternoon on Sunday.  The first order of business was to make some new face masks. The governor has signed an order making mask mandates unlawful at public schools and universities in our state, but the SIT's university is recommending them.  The company we work for reestablished mask mandates just over a week ago.  I expect we will be wearing masks through at least Halloween as most of the models show cases increasing through September.  So it seemed worthwhile to make a few new ones.

These three are for the SIT and her roommates.  I started some new ones for My Guy and I, but those aren't finished.

The first scrappy butterfly block is framed.

Scrappy Butterflies
Block is available in EQ 8 Block Library

For some reason, EQ 8 gave me really funky measurements for the strips and I couldn't wrap my head around the math.  So before cutting a bunch of strips, a test run seemed wise.  I'm hoping to make more progress on these blocks this week.

we have been wearing masks but what I made over a year ago will still work for us supplemented with I box of purchased masks - we don't go out all that much other than the grocery, Lowes, and doctor appointments - I made a lot of them last year so still have some use out of them

The butterfly is so cute, and I had that same little floral in my stash. I think I used it up on RSC blocks when yellow came around.

My grandkids' schools are recommending masks, but not requiring them. I'm actually surprised that our governor hasn't banned mask mandates because she definitely doesn't believe in them. But she's been busy at the Sturgis motorcycle rally having photo ops.

Glad you were able to spend one last weekend with SIT, but so sorry about the allergies. That is not fun. Hope you are feeling better soon!

Oh, I love your scrappy butterfly. Yeah…the masks. I’m tempted to make more, but I probably won’t at least for now. Our governor has mandated masks indoors state-wide again. So frustrating, but I’m even more frustrated with these elected officials signing orders against mandates. Good grief. It’s the people who most need to wear masks who will refuse to wear one.

Great to spend time with family, and too bad for the allergies. Your yellow butterfly looks great!

So happy to hear you had a good visit with SIT but so sorry about your allergies. Pretty fabrics that you used in the new masks and such a darling butterfly. Have a great week.

Hi Kate,
I like the butterfly in yellow. So cheerful. We’ve not had many Monarch caterpillars on our milkweed this summer. I hope they are feeding elsewhere so they can turn into more butterflies. Sorry about your allergies and hope they are soon gone. Thanks for your participation in Design Wall Mondays. Hugs, Judy
