WIPs - Making Progress

It's been a weird week.  There was this very fast moving virus that invaded suddenly Sunday evening.  Fever, chills and body aches were it's signature.  But after a good's night sleep (from 8 PM to 1:30 PM the next day), I was almost good as new.  Though not a lot of weekend stitching got done.  I was too busy putting on flannel shirts, sweaters, blankets while asking everyone else in the house if the furnace was really working to get much real sewing done.  However there is a bit of progress to report.  The top border for the McCall's Mystery quilt is assembled and pinned to the rest of the top, so it just needs to be stitched.  But that's not very photo worthy, so here's a shot of the Allietare blocks up on the design wall.

I just realized that one of the 4 patches is turned wrong in one of the Star Blocks.  I'll have to fix that next time I'm up in the sewing room.  You can get a better sense of how the blocks are going to work together with the addition of two more red star blocks. I'm happy with my color selections, now I just have to get all the blocks made (without turning any more 4 patches).

Progress was also made on figuring out the paper piecing directions for Vintage Dresses.  The skirt for the first dress is complete.

The bodices are a lot more fiddly, so starting with the skirt seemed to be the best option.  Two of the 7 bodice pieces have been completed, but they by themselves weren't really very photogenic. I'm hoping to have one completed dress for the RSC post on Saturday.

So that's the progress on my WIPs this week.  Not as much as I'd like, but still there was progress.  You can see more WIPs over at

my daughter was sick one day last week, no one else got it and she was about good as new after 36 hours. Glad I haven't gotten sick like that in several years. Like that quilt you are working on

I like your color choice for Allietare...don't you hate it when you have to rip and re-sew? Your skirt looks good! I can't wait to see your first dress when it's complete!! :)

Way to go! I'm so sorry you were ill, as that's just rotten. My oldest is home with a stomach bug, so we'll see how awful it gets around here. 😕

Love your Allietare! Not too many people went non-scrappy, and I love your version! Glad you noticed that block at this stage rather than later.

I studied that pic for 5 minutes before I found the 4 patch. Whew! It was like a "where's Waldo" moment.. :) It is looking great, and I am so looking forward to seeing those dresses! It reminds me of an apron quilt my sister made last year - we both love that quilt.

I am glad you weren't feeling ill for too long, many people here were struck down for quite a few days with flu this past winter; not pleasant at all. I love the look of your Alliare quilt and I am intrigued with the vintage dresses...

Your Allietare blocks look great! I think this is my favorite Bonnie Hunter pattern so far. It's really fun to see how quilters use personal color schemes. I've never made a mystery quilt and am always amazed with how they turn out when you have no idea how the colors will be arranged. Hope you're feeling well again!

Love the colors in Allietare. Such great contrast and so crisp and striking. What a cute block on the vintage dresses. I've never seen this before. Will enjoy seeing how they all come together.
