The Quilting Part

The first day of November was overcast and chilly.  Not cold, just chilly enough to want a sweater most of the morning. Today looks to be much the same, though based on the forecast we have a chance of severe storms this evening.  Definitely a day to get my sewing machine time in during the afternoon.

I spent part of my sewing time yesterday getting end of the month photos of where all my projects are.  I was finally able to get a full on shot of the completely quilted Glowing Hearts (Sandra Walker).

I haven't taken the time to trim off the excess batting, that should happen this week. It is hard to see the quilting unless you blow up the picture a bit.  I decided to quilt just a couple of sets of double lines in the border, like a frame. It's pretty similar to what I did in the sashing, though that was single lines.  I also basted around the outside edge to make trimming and adding the binding a bit easier. The border was quilted with teal thread. I considered using the same yellow I used in the blocks, but just liked the teal better.

I've started making the label. After consultation with My Girl, we took inspiration from an old Janis Joplin song and decided to call my version "Pieces of My Hearts".  The binding still needs to be cut and sewn. The same dark blue used in the sashing will be the binding. This should be close to finished by the end of the week.

This is the third quilt I've used my walking foot to quilt.  I learned a few tricks with this one that should make the next one go a bit faster.  Linking up with Patchwork & Quilts, as well as, Sew & Tell Monday.

Great job on the quilting for your heart quilt - and what a perfect name for it.

I think the quilting you chose for the final border finishes off the quilting perfectly. Congratulations on getting another quilt quilted with your walking foot and being so close to another finish!

Oh my that is such a pretty quilt and my colors!!! Nice learning how to use your walking foot--I need to get mine out that came with my machine 7 yrs ago and give it a try--yep--that poor 'foot's ' been waiting 7 years--wonder how much longer it will wait???? And your girl came up with a nice name for the quilt--
we are WET wet here--it has been raining non stop for the last 24 hours and at times very heavy rain--if I heard it right--they are talking like we have had 15 inches of rain---ouch!!!
hugs, di

Oh how pretty, Kate. Glowing Hearts is a stunner. I love how you created a four patch design in the border quilting in the corner. That is a good idea. I will have to remember that. I wish you the most delightful week and stay safe during the storms. Hugs.

Your quilting on the hearts quilt turned out great, Kate! I really like the double lines in the outside border. A dark blue binding sounds perfect for the finish, too!

Your border is beautiful, I love the fabric and the quilting. Simple lines are often very effective. Your heart quilt is pretty, well done choosing the name with your daughter! Thank you for sharing your soon to be finished quilt and linking up.

I don't like to use my walking foot it always seems like if I do my thread is constantly breaking and I can't use the automatic threader if it the walking foot is on - it just won't work with it so then I have to take it off and thread the machine again and then get the foot back on which isn't always easy
