I did get in some decent sewing room time this weekend. It was much easier to use the foot pedal by Sunday. A couple of hours of stitching time was enough time to get the final borders on Rhododendron, the 2021 Bonnie Hunter Mystery.
The purple makes a nice final frame. I stuck with Bonnie's layout, except for the borders. I didn't want to make any more of those flying geese, so I did my own thing with the pieced border. This top finishes at about 80" x 80". Now it will go into the closet with the other finished tops until I decide on a backing for it.

Love your rhododendron! With your continuous colors for the blocks, it really looks striking and not like hers at all. And your border is perfect; it frames it nicely and adds a nice touch. Hooray for the flimsy!

Your version of Rhododendron Trail turned out so well. I like the borders and especially the colorway. The tornado outbreak was certainly widespread.

I thought of you this morning as I read about the tornado that devastated Sulphur. I'm glad the storms stayed away from you.
I always like to see quilters who feel free to "adapt" Bonnie's mystery quilt patterns. I foresee down the road, lots of Bonnie quilts turning up in thrift shops and antique malls and people wondering why there are so many that all look alike. Good for you to doing your own thing.

Your Rhododendron quilt top is a beauty! The purple border is the perfect frame for all those lovely blocks. Fabulous your knee is healed enough for you to sit at the sewing machine, and fabulous too, you were safe from those storms.

I love how you finished your border, these flying geese seem to direct the eye towards the center of the quilt. I love yellow and purple together! Bravo for this beautiful finish!

Yay, sounds like things are starting to get back to normal! Glad you didn't have to make a run for the shelter. The purple really does make a nice frame for Rhododendron. I like your borders instead of more flying geese.

I can only imagine how anxious you get during "storm season". I am glad you did not have to use the shelter. We have had a rainy weekend, but thankfully no damage. Your rhododendron quilt is absolutely gorgeous, Kate.
