Weekend Stitching: Slow Going

I'm definitely not ready for Monday morning.  It was a nice three day weekend with lots of stitching time.  So it's hard to head back to the office this morning.  It will busy at work this week, but I'm off all next week.  I just have to make it to Friday.

The focus in the sewing room has been En Provence.  I'd like to get that project to at least the finished flimsy stage before this year's mystery starts up next week.

En Provence,  Bonnie Hunter Mystery (2016)

The first round of pieced borders is done and one of the second round of borders has been attached.  Another border strip is almost assembled and I've got a good start on sewing the 4-patches for the top border.  I'll probably add one more final solid border after this second pieced border, most likely in a dark blue to finish this one off.  Hopefully one more weekend of stitching and it will be a finished flimsy.

I've also been working on November's clue for the Magnolia Mystery from Meadow Mist Designs.  I've got the half blocks completed and made a start on the full flower blocks yesterday.

I like my fabric choices so far.  I'm still not sure the print in the background was the best idea, but we'll see how it all goes together.  So three down and three in progress.  I'm not sure how many of these are supposed to be made, I should probably check the instructions.

En Provence is coming along very nicely, and I love your Magnolia Mystery block! I think your floral background is perfect with all the tone-on-tone fabrics.

I agree with Julie, I think the floral print looks good. It will be interesting to see it come together. The countdown is on - 5 days till vacation! :)

I love the floral print for the background combined with the tonals for the rest of the fabrics. I think once everything comes together the print background will be more subtle!

I like the floral print, too! You picked out the perfect colors from it for the rest of the fabric. I like how the four patches look for the En Provence border, but I can imagine that piecing all of them takes a long time! One more week until a week off - I bet you're looking forward to Friday already!

I'm joining the "love the floral print" chorus!
And I know what a slog those last gazillion 4-patches were for En Provence's borders... You're almost there!

Hi Kate,
It looks like you were quite productive on your three-day weekend. I'm jealous - I need some serious sewing time. Right now! I am looking forward to the four day Thanksgiving long weekend but no real time off for me until the end of the year. Happy sewing! ~smile~ Roseanne

Yay for getting En Provence so close to the finish! And without giving anything away (I've seen the finished quilt), your floral mystery background will be fine. If I have a chance to add it to my overblown UFO list, I have a floral background (actually, a vintage sheet!) picked out for it.

Your blocks for the Magnolia Mystery are turning out beautifully, the floral background looks great with your colors. I should get busy on my quilt. You made some great progress on En Provence this weekend. You are almost there!

En Provence is coming along great, especially with your colours. So close, I’m cheering you on to the finish. All that and Magnolia mystery too, I agree with the others, I like your background.

Congrats on getting your En Provence quilt almost to the flimsy stage. I know exactly how you feel about getting that done BEFORE the next mystery comes out. Your colors are very pretty. Just 3 more days to the weekend. Hang in there.!

My En Provence is still in the box, neatly stacked, all ready to lay up. I keep playing with different layouts (shhhh) than the BH original because choosing different colors played around with pattern sooo much. Yours is lovely! You're inspiring me to get it back out one more time. I'm looking forward to seeing your borders. I think they can make such a difference on this one.

Love, love, love the floral background as your blocks are almost "solids" and it will look so pretty when the quilt is complete. Good choice. Thanks for linking with Design Wall Monday at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts.
