This week's challenge was snow. Oklahoma doesn't get much snow, maybe one a year. Though there are years we get none at all. More often we get freezing rain and sleet. Last year we did get one good snow in January. The rose bushes outside our dining room window are one of the local bird hang outs pretty much year round, but you can certainly see the little guys better in the winter when all the foliage is gone.
I like the almost black and white tone of this shot. It's that stark tonal quality that for me, captures the essence of the cold and windy winters we have in Oklahoma.

Beautiful! I'm so glad you decided to join us. I'm always fascinated how cold weather, rain, fog, etc., have a way of draining the color out of the landscape. I keep telling my husband that blue is a cold color, and he keeps telling me that the hottest part of a flame is blue. True . . . hm. I never have an argument for that. He's the engineer, I'm the artist. I think that's the only difference. His blue is concrete, mine more abstract.

This is a wonderful photo Kate. I like the almost black and white quality of it too. It really does convey the starkness (is that even a word ?) of winter. Poor little bird. I wonder why he didn't fly south/north for winter?

I like photos that are so subtle in color that they look black & white - makes you look twice. Winter can be so bleak, but so beautiful! Great photo. Cheers! Evelyn
