I've been in mask assembly mode. In addition to making a few new ones this weekend, I reworked a few of the older elastic ones using the pattern we all liked better.
Had you told me a year ago March that I'd still be making masks more than a year later, I'm not sure I would have believed you. There are a few more to remake and a couple of colors to add to our current collection so this round of mask making should be over by the end of the month.
I did more fabric cutting then stitching this weekend. The border strips for Cabins and Fans were cut and assembled. The first is stitched to the quilt top.
The second border is pinned and ready for stitching.
Clue 3 for the Macaron Mystery came out last week, but I still wasn't thrilled with all my fabric selections. The gray and black floral fabric just didn't seem to "go" with the rest.
I try to pull from the stash for mystery quilts, so I was preparing to just live with the floral when I remembered a set of fabrics that had been purchased to make a black and white quilt. Those had been kitted up and stored in one of my fabric bins. There were some very nice options in that stash. The fabric pull for Macaron now looks like this.
This works so much better to my mind. I cut the first pieces this weekend, which puts this project on my in progress list. It's been over 9 months since my last new start. Playing with something completely new is going to be fun.
Linking up with Monday Making and Design Wall Monday.
Yes! I had so much trouble choosing my fabrics that I peaked at the solution. I think you will be happy with your choices.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your new project. I think your fabric choices will look great together!
ReplyDeleteI usually do not do mysteries because of fabric selection, hope yours are right!
ReplyDeleteWhat mask pattern are you using? I need to make a fresh batch since masks are going to be part of life for the foreseeable future. Last year I made the three-pleats/filter pocket variety and now I'd like to make a curved-front, two-layer. (Though I can be more leisurely about it. In spring 2020 I felt that I had to, had to stitch to save humanity.).........Good thing you pressed "pause" for the mystery fabrics because the second choice does look better Hope it turns out that way in the quilt!
ReplyDeleteI love your fabric choices. I’m with you on the masks. Just the same, when we get home, I think I’ll make a few more seasonal ones: Valentine’s Day, Spring. I already have fall and Christmas. Maybe I can find something appropriate for Thanksgiving. They are good scrap busters.
ReplyDeleteI agree that your new choice works better with the rest. I had my fabric chosen before the mystery was announced. I thought the name Macaron needed macaron colours. I will make mine work. Just as soon as I start cutting.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! Your new fabric is perfect with the others. Great choice. I'm going to be watching Macaron with interest, and just saving the instructions until another time. Your masks look good. I've been wearing disposable ones lately because I'm out in public so seldom these days.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had such a nice time with the SIT over the weekend. I've been procrastinating on making new masks, but after I finish my next quilt I probably need to buckle down and do it. And I really love the updated fabric choices for the Macaroon Mystery quilt. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI think masks are going to be with us for some time to come.
ReplyDeleteYou're making great progress and a new start, looking forward to seeing that one progress too.
Nine months without a new start! Wow! What willpower you have!
ReplyDeleteHi Kate,
ReplyDeleteWhen I look at the photos of your fabric pulls for the mystery quilt, I can see what you mean about the floral fabric being a non-fit with the rest. The more we do this, the better we get at it, and I think your new choices will work (or play, as some say) well with each other. I will enjoy seeing your progress on the mystery. Thanks again, for joining Design Wall Mondays. Hugs, Judy
Ooh Cabins and Fans will be a stunning quilt. Yes, we are still wearing masks and sadly not enough people are wearing them. Your fabric pull has my blessing :-)
