We took our monthly day off on Friday, so it was a three day weekend for me. So I had three good afternoons of stitching time this week to work on the four quilts in my "focus" group. Red, White and Blue Stars should be a finish this week. I've gotten past one corner of stitching on the binding. The other three focus quilts in the works at the moment were all started last year as mystery quilt alongs. I was able to get Grassy Creek off the big design wall this weekend so I could put Unity back up and get a picture of the progress on it.

It's almost too big for the design wall. I'm still working on the blocks for step 7. I'm a little over half way done with the second pieced border strip. There are still a lot of HSTs to make to finish that strip, plus the top and bottom border strips. Unity is my current leaders and enders project, so progress on it hasn't been fast, but there has been progress.
One of the changes I made in my quilt plan for this year was keep the new projects from 2020 at the top of the to do list and finish those before I pulled out any of the older UFOs. I'm hopeful that Grassy Creek will be out for quilting by the end of the month and that the Morewood Mystery quilt won't be too far behind it next month. Hopefully by then, I'll be ready for Unity's step 8.

Good morning, Kate -- you have a good point. By working on new projects while they're fresh you are likely to maintain enthusiasm about them. Telling yourself that you MUST get the borders on XYZ2015 before you can do anything else may be such a drag that you don't get the six blocks for ABC2021 pieced and then they go in a box and....the cycle repeats. So, anyway: Unity looks so good! I rather wish Bonnie would design an elaborate quilt that is smaller. I know we can use her units and blocks any way we want but with a cohesive pattern like Unity it would be nice to have all that cohesiveness in a quilt that's, say, 60 x 72.

ReplyDeleteYou have a great plan for finishing UFOs. I do love those bigger stars on round 7 for Unity. A part of me wishes I had added them to mine, but I do love how mine turned out with fewer rounds too.

ReplyDeleteGood change of plans.... Hopefully you can get through all of the 2020 UFOs and make a dent in the older ones without leaving 2020 ones to languish. Unity is making progress. And, I'd say they blocks for it seem perfect for leader enders.

ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely quilt and is some of my favorite colors. I keep thinking I should try a mystery quilt one of these days, but I'm worried I won't like it when it's finished. LOL
