Stitching Stuff: Week 45 of 2020

It's been a week with a lot of uncertainty on both the public and private fronts in our house.  So it was a stressful week on a couple of fronts. The family stuff got sorted out yesterday to a good ending. So at least that stress is gone. So it wasn't the best week for stitching.  When it gets really stressful, a good book is a better distraction and spending even just 15 minutes in the sewing room just doesn't appeal.  How did you fare this week in finding both the time and motivation to stitch?

When I'm not sleeping well, rotary cutters take on a new danger and the seam ripper sees a lot more action. So there are some days when trying to force those 15 minutes can take projects in the reverse direction. This week had a couple of those days.

  • 15 minute days/week = 5/7 days
  • 15 minute days/Nov = 5/7 days
  • 15 minute days/2020 = 279/312
  • Success rate = 89.42%

I'm still exceeding my 2020 goal to get in 15 minutes of stitching at least 85% of the time.  Fingers crossed that this week is much calmer on all fronts.  You can link up at the bottom of the post and share how your stitchy week went.

There's been some slow stitching going on this weekend.

I've stitched past two corners on the binding for the 2019 Christmas Mystery quilt.  I don't know if I'll get this done today or not. If not I'll come close.  Linking up with Slow Stitching Sunday over at Kathy's Quilts

Photography has taken a bit of a back seat this year.  But on our way to pick up take out for dinner the other night, we had to stop and photograph the fall color in downtown.

I only had my phone with me, but you use what you've got if you don't want to miss a shot. I like all the shadows the lamp light provides, it really makes the leaves just glow.

That was my week. So how did your stitchy week go?

  2. Beautiful fall colors! I stay away from cutting and FMQ when I am tired or distracted because it never ends well. Hope this week is better.

  3. Your fall photo is amazing! There's nothing better than the colors of autumn!
I hope the next week is less stressful and better for stitching time.

  4. Living in Texas, the fall colors are minimal. I love that tree and the shadows.
Happy your family uncertainty has resolved itself. Those don't make for good productive days. Hope this week is much better.

  5. Glad to hear that life is less stressful now. The brilliant colors of that tree are gorgeous. We haven't had all that much color here. Too many rainy days that have just taken the leaves off the trees and a summer hurricane where the salty rain damaged many of the leaves. I hope you find those 15 minutes each day to stitch this week. I have been trying to do so also.

  7. Feeling so much relief this morning. When I woke up, it was nice knowing there was change ahead. The fall leaves are gorgeous. I think this is turning out to be one the prettier falls in recent memory.

  8. Sometimes escaping into a good book is the best place to go! Binding is always a happy place, too. Hope you have a relaxing Sunday, Kate!

  9. It's good that life has calmed a bit for you. I escape in a good book quite frequently myself. I'm doing some binding today, and need to sew on a label for a quilt that needs to be mailed this week.

  11. The fall colours here have been spectacular... great shot of the tree in your town! Enjoy your binding today... it's my favourite slow stitching and you'll have a finish to share soon!

  12. My week was stressful too, and it too wound up resolving itself by the end of the week. I completely understand taking quilting time off if that time adds stress rather than reduces it. I hope your upcoming week is better in all regards.

  14. That tree is magnificent, we don't have many trees with that type of autumn colour down here. Glad there was a good outcome to your stressful week.

  15. Hand stitching the binding down is always so satisfying, I find, almost at the end of the project! That's a wonderful glowing red tree you photographed, a real beauty.

  16. AAAHHH!! I love the hint of metallic in your slow stitching! I worked on binding this weekend, too. I love spending a Sunday evening stitching down binding! Your time continues to look fantastic; you're going strong heading into the last 20% of the year! Glorious colors in the tree shot. I adore autumn colors!!! :)

  17. I was sorry to read that you had stress this week at home. It is great that it all ended with the word "good". Sometimes our home stuff seems unbearable. For me, when I look back and see how I grew through it, it doesn't seem so bad.

I loved the beautiful orange tree downtown! I think your cell camera did a good job.

I agree that a good book can take our minds out of our difficult world and into a new one. I listen to audible books while sewing and get the best of both worlds.
