It's always a bit surprising how quickly we can slide from the cooler days of fall in early October to the miserably cold days of late October. Parts of the state will get freezing rain tonight, we'll just get the cold and wet weather. It's a good thing the October One Monthly Goal got done early in the week.
The binding on Storm at Sea was finished last Monday. But photos didn't happen till yesterday. Here's the finished quilt.
Storm at Sea (Streams) Paper Piecing Class by Carrie Randell (Quilter's Hideaway) Started: March 9, 2019 Finished: October 19, 2020 |
I'm really happy with how it came out. The quilting is a swirly wavy line.
Trudy did a great job with the quilting. The binding took longer because, one it's a big quilt and two, I went with a two fabric binding. I really wanted to use the dark blue fabric as the binding, but there wasn't enough left over from the borders. The two tone binding was the best solution to that problem.
So there was an extra step of sewing the two binding strips together before stitching to the quilt.
You can see the dark blue just at the very edge of the back. Ensuring a bit of the dark blue was visible from the back meant you couldn't see the light blue from the front. I can't claim that a two tone binding is one of my favorite things, but it's a good thing to know how to do if you are short on your preferred binding fabric.
After the photographing was done, Storm at Sea (Streams) was put to good use as the new quilt for our bed.
My Guy likes it. This quilt is a bit bigger than the old one, so it's easier to make the bed. That may be My Guy's favorite part of the new quilt.

glad you finally got done with your binding and I am just starting mine - thanks so much for sharing that border with me for my quilt to make it larger it really worked out well and got lots of compliments on it. Love your quilt
ReplyDeleteYour Storm at Sea quilt is so gorgeous! Your colors are great together, and it fits so perfectly on your bed. Congratulations on a fabulous finish!!
ReplyDeleteI really like the ripple effect of the color placement. Congratulations on a fine finish!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you said it multiple times, but I didn't realize how big the quilt is. Usually I see SaS at a smaller scale so I just assumed it was lap size. No wonder Your Guy loves it.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt and I like that your blocks are a bit larger than many I have seen. Could you share the pattern you used or did you "wing it"? Did you use a template set? I would love to make one for a wedding gift. Is this one queen size? Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the finish! The two tone binding was a great solution and the quilt looks perfect on your bed.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! I love the quilting. Nice work. It looks so pretty on your bed.
ReplyDeleteStreams looks fabulous. Great quilting. And, tiresome but the double colored binding serves the purpose you wanted it for! We like oversized quilts on our bed too. Generally, I think it is because we don't have to worry about freezing because someone grabs too much of the quilt!
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing on your bed. Beautiful quilting just added to an already beautiful quilt.
ReplyDeleteStorm at sea is one of my favorite patterns, and I love the ones that change color across the quilt. (One of these days I'll try that.) Great quilt!
ReplyDeleteStorm at Sea is just gorgeous, Kate! I really the quilting - it fits the theme perfectly. Congratulations on your finish!
ReplyDeleteOutstanding!
ReplyDeleteA finished quilt for your bed--what a great finish and feeling seeing it finally where it was intended. Congratulations. It looks terrific and all your hard work paid off.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on another spectacular finish, Kate!! I have to say, I wish I had seen this sooner. I probably would have preferred this method to the fused binding used for my most recent mini quilt finish.
ReplyDeleteWell done, it's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous! I am so sorry you are sick with Covid. Please take care.

How wonderful to see it all finished! It looks fabulous on the bed, just the perfect size. I love how the dark blue inner border sits right on the edge and the border diamonds run around the sides. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous!! I am sure you will both enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteThat turned out really well. I love the color flow. It doesn't look that big on your wall but once on the bed, it looks huge! How nice to have it done.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the finish. It's beautiful. Hope the freezing rain doesn't amount to much.

Oh, Kate! Your SAS quilt is just beautiful! I love the colors you used, and I especially like the diamond border you added. Congratulations on a fabulous finish!
ReplyDeleteGreat finish. I love the colours you have used.
ReplyDeletethat quilt is amazing!
ReplyDeleteWow what a splendid quilt Kate! I love everything about it, colours, size and quilting! I love doing little twiddly-bits within wavy lines, but what Trudy did is soooo good! Enjoy snuggling under it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt. I didn't realize it was so big until I saw it on your bed.
ReplyDeleteYou have a My Guy, and I call mine Mr Guy - lol!
I saw your comment on Diann's blog that you are from Oklahoma, so I had to come and check out your blog. I was born and raised in Oklahoma but have lived in Texas many years. We recently moved to far north Texas and are 7 miles from the Red River - as close to Oklahoma as we could get and still be close to our daughter.
Gorgeous quilt! Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and congrats on your finish!
ReplyDeleteLooks great! Congrats on this finish!
