To Do Tuesday for Week of 6/30/2020

It's amazing what difference a week can make.  Things have settled down at work with personnel questions having been answered, while the number of Covid 19 cases continues to increase in the state. Work has tightened up restrictions on face to face meetings and beefed up the facial covering policy.  Not an ideal environment, but at least I feel reasonably safe at work.  It's going any place else that is concerning. Mask wearing in our community isn't practiced much.  I think part of the problem is while cases are indeed rising, the total number impacted in our community is still less than 1% of the population, with many of the earlier cases associated with two local nursing homes.  So few people know someone who has had the virus, which promotes the train of thought it's a hoax or really not that bad.

Even with, or maybe due to, all the stuff going on in the world my sewing mojo returned last week. Consequently a lot of progress was made on last week's To Do list.

Weekly To Do List for 06/23/2020
Frolic: assemble center
Unity: Step 3, make more sawtooth stars
Storm at Sea: finish borders, find backing
Mosaic Mystery: Make label

I didn't find the backing for Storm at Sea, but I spent a good amount of time searching for it. Now I'm not sure if it actually got ordered, so I checked that item as complete. Compared to the previous two weeks, last week was definitely a good one.

So what's the plan for this week?  With the 4th of July holiday coming this weekend and some time off, My Guy has requested we do some things together and get out of the house for a bit.  There's the thought of doing a wild flower photography expedition this weekend and spending time with the Scientist in Training, so I'm probably not going to get as much sewing time over the weekend as usual.  So I'm paring down the To Do list accordingly.

Weekly To Do List for 06/30/2020

Frolic: Trim, start on light blue border

Frolic, 2019 Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt

I've made some of the HSTs that were called for in the instructions for Frolic, but not enough to surround the whole quilt. So the ones that are finished will be worked into the final black border.  At least that's the plan for now.

Mosaic Mystery: Finish and press binding

The binding just needs one seam sewn to be finished. I should be able to finish that and get the binding pressed then rolled onto an old wrapping paper tube ready to be sewn on once I get the quilt trimmed.

Unity: Make more Sawtooth Stars for step 3

Unity, 2020 Bonnie Hunter Sew-In-Place Quilt Along

Just one more border star up on the design wall this week, but there are more in the works at the sewing machine.  Hopefully I'll have enough stars this week to actually have one of the four borders complete.

That's my to do list for this week. We are taking a staycation next week.  We've got a few home improvement projects planned, but I'm hoping to work in a couple of nothing but stitching days.  Next week's to do list will definitely be more ambitious.

  1. I'm glad to hear your sewing mojo is back, Kate! I like your plan for the Frolic border! Hope you have a fun holiday weekend, too. A wildflower photography outing and time with your SIT sound perfect!

  2. I'm glad things are getting into a routine at work and safety precautions are met- here too all people are not wearing masks and I wonder if it is just that they do not know anyone who has gotten sick and they too think too much is being made out of it. I need to talk hubby into taking a drive or something and get away from the house and yard -

  3. That’s a great idea to use the HST’s in the border. I like what you’ve done here. The whole mask-wearing thing (or NOT wearing) is so tiresome. We wear a mask whenever we go out, and somehow we’ve lived to tell about it...which is kind of the point.

  4. They are both looking great! I love the idea of using up pieces in the border--something I've just recently started (evolved into?) keeping in mind as I go.
Our state has just announced masks are mandatory in public places starting Friday--in this heat. Thankfully I don't have to get out much because I can get claustrophobic when I don't get air. Our cases have gone way up but most are a-symptomatic--we're just testing more I guess. Like everyone, I'm just ready for it to be over.

  6. Hi Kate! HAHA - I've done that myself. Searched and searched for the right fabric - backing or otherwise - and then I wasn't sure if I ordered it or not. Great job on the checkmarks. Enjoy the holiday with DH and SiT. Fun expeditions are definitely in order. It's hard to believe it's the 4th of July already. No fireworks or parades here, though. Thanks for linking up today. ~smile~ Roseanne

  7. So glad your sewing mojo has come back! Yippee! We feel the same about mask wearing here. There is a mix in our town, with quite a few wearing them, but definitely not all. Other areas seem like there is no regard for masks whatsoever. We are waiting to hear if the governor will put out a mandatory mask policy. I hope you enjoy your weekend, whatever fun thing you find to do!

  8. Your Unity and Frolic are both looking fantastic! As for the backing fabric that might not have actually been ordered -- oh my gosh, I am guilty of that, too! I'll be getting mad that something I ordered from Amazon hasn't shown up yet, but when I log into their web site to complain about it I discover that the item is still sitting in my "virtual shopping cart" and I never actually checked out and paid for it! Whoops! :-). Have a wonderful, productive and relaxing Staycation with your sweetie!

  9. I love your idea of the geese flying around the corners on Frolic! I think that is more interesting and dynamic than the original pattern :)

  10. Love your idea on the Frolic border!!! As to mask wearing, we are free to wear or not. Our cases aren't at a high level, but more important, the hospitalizations and deaths are declining, and the virus has a very low risk for the general population, which the data is bearing out.
