Making Progress

It was a nice quiet weekend.  The biggest excitement was realizing that we had a line of strong storms coming in and My Guy was out for one of his longer bike rides.  Thankfully I knew the route he was taking so it didn't take me long to find him and load him up to head home.  It ended up not raining all that much, but it was lightening, which isn't safe to be out in on a bike.

There was a lot of progress on the stitching front this weekend.  I met my June One Monthly Goal

The last border strip was sewn on to Storm at Sea.  Getting a photo wasn't easy, it's a big quilt.

I'm really happy with how this one worked out. My Guy likes it too. Which is good as SAS is going on our bed once it's finished.  The other part of the OMG goal was to locate the extra wide backing.  I've searched and searched the sewing room, there is no trace of an extra wide backing.  Now I'm wondering if one was actually ordered. I remember looking at some options and My Guy not being thrilled with any of them.  The plan is to give the sewing room a good clean up during our staycation next week. If an extra wide backing doesn't show up during the clean up, I'll order one.

The other milestone this weekend is that all the Frolic blocks are sewn together.

It's really bright, but I like it. So does My Guy.  Now to get it trimmed up and add the borders.

The last accomplishment is that I finally finished making face masks for my group at work.

Mask pattern from Laundry Basket Quilts

The two green face masks are for My Guy, who asked from more masks with the t-shirt ear loops.  The Scientist in Training has also asked for a mask or two made from this pattern. She wants them made with the chemistry themed fabrics. With the case counts still climbing in our state, it seems I'm not done with the mask making just yet.

That's it from the sewing room this week.  Linking up with Monday Making, Monday Design Wall and the June One Monthly Goal Finish Link Up

  1. Your Frolic and Storm at Sea both look fabulous, Kate! I'm going to have to make some more masks, too, I'm afraid, now that they are mandatory in North Carolina and the virus doesn't seem to be going away any time soon. I really hate wearing them, and I hate making them even more -- but there's nothing to be done about it besides trying to cultivate the virtue of patience... Wish me luck with THAT!

  2. Your projects all seem to share similar colors, mostly blues and greens. Both quilts are gorgeous! Congratulations on finishing the Storm at Sea! I look forward to seeing your border plan for Frolic since mine is the same size and is also at the same stage of completion.

  3. I love seeing the border idea you gave me for my Alaska quilt has come to life on your quilt in different colors and Frolic too - you have made progress.
Glad you found your husband before the lightening got bad.

  4. Both quilts are beautiful, but I love the SAS! It often happens that a big strong storm is heading our way only to have it dissipate before it hits us! Your guy is lucky he has you to watchout for him!

  5. I did a small SAS and struggled and here you are with a monstor one! Both quilts are gorgeous. Good luck with the re-organizing and search. We had those awful storms, too.

  6. Your quilts are gorgeous! That’s a lot of progress finishing up the two of them. That’s weird about your backing fabric. I think I’ve done something similar before, only I usually have to order more fabric before I can find the missing one. I’m going to make a couple of masks today too. I’m making Oregon State masks for Erik and Mae, although I’m guessing football season will be a bust this year.

  7. I'm so glad you were able to get him safely home and out of lightning - not good conditions at all. Your Storm at Sea quilt finished beautifully! I typically order wide backings from one location, so I would check my email orders to see when my last order was placed to see if that helps me find something. :) I hope you have a great week.

  10. Great work on both quilts--and happy that your mojo is back--as I know you love to sew--I am thinking of making a couple more masks myself--though I do have 6 right now and don't go out but every other day to do my walk or check the mail ect here in the building--I like the last batch I made with the t-shirt ties, but like my pleated ones I did first rather than the fitted ones--for some reason I need more room in the front of the fitted ones--???? And in racing news--I am just not really enjoying the Cup series this year--same ones winning over and over--but have been enjoying the X-finity series --what can I say--life changes us these days!!!!
    Happy sewing-and stay safe--luv, di

  15. Both the SAS and Frolic are looking good. Assuming you would have ordered the extra wide backing online, can you check your credit card statements and look for places from which you might have ordered. I also keep the confirmation emails from online sites in a folder in my gmail. Not that I'm trying to discourage you from re-organizing.

  19. Storm at Sea looks fantastic! It sounds like the backing fabric is still a mystery. Love your masks! I need to make some more, too. And my work got us branded ones but they have the elastic for the ears that I don't like, so I need to add ties. I'm not likely to be back to work in person until August but I should probably get them ready anyway.

  20. Hooray! Congrats on the finished top and the finished and pieced blocks - they are both great! Nice masks too. Our schools just announced that masks will be required for next year, so I am sure I will be making more too.
