Frolicking with Unity and Other Stitching Tales

We've been fighting our typical spring battles with the ants and other creatures.  Last night I went to bed and got attacked by what looked like flying ants.  I finally slept on the couch because they kept coming. My Guy slept through the whole thing.  I'll be spraying the baseboards before we leave for work.  Needless to say, I didn't sleep very well. It didn't help that the dishwasher kicked on at about 2 AM.  A rather crappy end to what had been a fairly nice weekend.

It was a productive weekend in the sewing room. Step 2 of Unity is done!!!

Unity, 2020 Bonnie Hunter Sew-In-Place Quilt Along

I'm really happy with my fabric choices at this point.  I've already gotten a start on Step 3, but those 4" stars aren't going to go quickly.  I'll just keep plugging along. I have deep admiration for those who can finish a step in a week. That's a lot of stitching!

Frolic is moving along again.

Frolic, 2019 Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt

The last row of dark blue stars are all sewn together.  The long sashing piece that goes with the row is at the machine. It just needs one more seam.  Both rows should be sewn together by next week.  Soon it will be time to finalize the borders and get those stitched. I may actually get this mystery done before the next one comes out.

There was also some mask making this weekend.

I pulled out my stash of chemistry themed fabrics to make this next set.  These are for some of my co-workers who aren't having a lot of luck with the surgical masks. I still have several more to make, but these four are a good start.

That's my week of stitching.  Linking up with Monday Making, Design Wall Monday, and Main Crush Monday

  1. I hate when the bugs get in the house - I have been fighting ants on the kitchen windowsill and floor for over a month now - I'm so glad I have not children or pets in the house as I have ant bait traps on the floor where they could have gotten to them by accident - I think finally after a month we are almost ant free - now if all the tiny spiders and stuff would stay out side too -- I feel for you!

  2. It all looks great, Kate. Flying ants? That sounds like termites. We get them here too. You’ve been very busy with your mask-making. I should really make a couple more, but I’d rather spend my sewing time working on other projects. If this goes on much longer, I’ll have to bite the bullet.

  3. What fun mask fabrics!!

Love the colors you chose for both Bonnie Hunter quilts. That darker background on Frolic was an excellent choice. And Unity has a real citrus feel. Good job!

  5. The chemistry fabric is really fun for the masks. I hope they work better for your co-workers and they appreciate your efforts. Unity looks great as does Frolic. I hope you have a better night's sleep to night and a good week.

  6. Those flying ants may be termites! We've had them in the past. ICK.

Glad your stitching time is adding up nicely. It's always good to celebrate a step finish!

Cute masks....I made some like that style this weekend. Our hairstylist daughter is going back to work this week and needed a couple, and then there were more requests from family members :)

  9. Gorgeous work. We are having trouble with the insects this year as well. Thousands of grasshoppers are driving my DH crazy. He's tried everything and now goes out and personally takes care of them.

  11. Oh my gosh! I have those flying ant things at my house too! And guess where they are? My sewing room, in the window beside my sewing machine. I've never seen them before, don't know what they are, and don't want them in my house!! Trying to figure out what to do to get rid of them. Let me know if you find something that works... I love your Unity quilt - the fabrics are fabulous. Sounds like you made a lot of progress on your projects. Thanks for sharing them on MCM!

  12. Masks, masks, masks, and more masks. Will it end? I believe it will at some point. I really like the looks of the pattern you are making. I have not done any ear band ones yet.

Is that the layout for Unity or have you just laid it out that way while following the clues? I have not been following along Bonnie's mystery this time.

  15. We’ve had a lot of spiders in our house this spring and several ants too - frustrating, but even more so when they interrupt your sleep. Frolic and Unity are both looking great!
