This year she opted for an on-campus four bedroom apartment shared with three of her friends. Her bedroom is a nice size, a great improvement over the closet she lived in over the summer. They have a nice sized living/dining room, but the kitchen is pretty tiny. Only two of them have moved in so far (both have on campus jobs, so had to move in early). The last two will not move in till Wednesday. Moving in early was nice, we missed all the madness of no parking places, crazy busy traffic and packed resturants.
When we got home late Sunday afternoon, I wandered into the sewing room. I hadn't really been in there since the previous Sunday. So where was I? This is what was laying by the sewing machine.
The gray pieces are Sawtooth Stars for the Inverted Star border. The orange strips and HSTs are the beginnings of this month's Squared Away blocks. The red and black almost 9 patches are the centers for the On Ringo Lake blocks (the current leader and enders project). The wider white strips are for the first border around the Inverted Star Blocks. Before I left the sewing room all the various pieces are were pinned and are ready for a good sit down session at the machine.
Since Twinkle Stars is this month's One Monthly Goal and it's almost the middle of the month, it was time to get those blocks out and back up on the design wall to figure out what's next. I had planned to sash these blocks, but both My Guy and the SIT liked it better without sashing. Plus the SIT wanted to see how the blocks looked laid out in rainbow order. So I gave that a try and ended up with this.
Twinkle Stars, Tutorial by Andrea Feldbush of Soscrappy |
This works out nicely. The only problem is that without the sashing the quilt is a bit small for the intended purpose. So the plan is to add another row and column of blocks. So I need another 17 blocks before setting this one together. The Twinkle Stars is another college graduation quilt, but I've got a couple of years before it needs to be finished. Plenty of time (famous last words).
That's it for me this week. Linking up with the usual Monday morning linky parties.

This layout of the Twinkle Stars quilt is so beautiful! And yes -- "plenty of time" are certainly famous last words!
ReplyDeleteI love that quilt!
ReplyDeleteLove the rainbow layout vs the scrappy layout! AND you get to make more blocks!
ReplyDeleteTwinkle Stars is gorgeous! I love it without the sashing...sorry you have to make more, but it'll be worth it!
ReplyDeleteYou’ve been busy! I love Twinkle Stars. I can’t remember how it looked laid out any other way, and it looks terrific the way you’ve done it. Sounds like all your projects are moving along.
ReplyDeleteGosh!! Already! Her room looks great!!
ReplyDeleteHer room looks so cozy and fun! Good job on beating the craziness of moving in day. Those Twinkle Stars are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot going on! Nice (tidy!) room -- is that a photograph or fabric on the wall? Hope the year goes well for her. Love the Twinkle Stars!
ReplyDeleteI love the Twinkle stars - you're the one who inspired me to make my own twinkler quilt, so I'm happy to see you completing this! It's going to be so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love your star quilt. I agree, it looks great with out the sashing. I love the diamonds. Beautiful colors too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pensive pose by SIT. And what a riot of colors in your starry quilt!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm with "My Guy" and the SIT. It looks really good sans sashing, Kate!! I guess it's time to get busy making MORE blocks, so it's a lucky thing that you still have some time before the quilt is due.
ReplyDeleteooooohhhhh sooooo nice. Yes, very pretty
ReplyDeleteActually, I think it's a fair trade-off of having to make more blocks versus doing sashing and I love your current layout. Since you've got the time (ha-ha), doing two or three twinkle blocks a month will get you there. I really like this block and must put it back on my list. I only made one the year Angela introduced it and then got derailed by other more pressing projects.

All those blocks look so good together - the quilt really glows. I wish SIT the best in her upcoming school year.

ReplyDeleteHope that your daughter has a good year at school. And love the rainbow layout for your blocks!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the SIT's quilt in use on her bed! It looks so great with the blue and white bedding :)
ReplyDeleteThe Twinkle quilt is just lovely and your subtle movement of one color into the next makes for a pleasant flow.
ReplyDeleteThat is the perfect name for your quilt, it really does Twinkle with all those colors and pieces. The layout is so pretty, and works really well without sashing.
ReplyDeleteTwinkle Stars is gorgeous! I am in love with it so much. The layout you have chosen is PERFECT!
ReplyDeleteMy son heads to college in two weeks. I hope I am emotionally ready.
I like the rainbow layout for your Twinkle Stars quilt. I agree that no sashing is best. It will beautiful when finished!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed that you could look at that pile of things and know what each one was! The TS is beautiful laid out like that and I look forward to seeing the finish.
ReplyDeleteI too like the rainbow layout for the star quilt. But I know how you feel when you realize that means more stars to make. It will look great! Thanks for linking with Design Wall Monday, Judy
