Thankfully whatever was bothering me on Saturday, left me alone on Sunday. So it was a pretty productive day. Laundry got done. Well not done, done. I ran out of laundry detergent before I ran out of dirty clothes. But I got enough washed so we all have clothes for next week. And after a little housework, I was able to head up to the sewing room without feeling too guilty about the state of the house.
The Meadow Mist Mystery quilt was finished off last week. So it was time to re-prioritize my project list. I'm working on five projects at the moment. It's easier for me to decide what to do with my sewing time each day if I'm working from a prioritized list. This is the order I finally decided on:
1. Blooms and Butterflies
2. Scrappy Coffee Cups
3. Christmas Angels
4. RSC blocks
5. En Provence
The first order of business was to trim Blooms and Butterflies for binding.
That's done. I realized a bit belatedly that the quilt needed a label. Since the label is sewn in with the binding, that needs to be made before attaching the binding. After a bit of playing around, this is what I finally settled on.
So the label was printed, soaked, rinsed and was left to dry over night. Then the binding strips were cut and are in the process of being sewn together.
I'm using up every last piece of this blue and white print. Since I'm piecing it from left overs, I had to be careful what pieces went where to avoid having seams at the corners, that's why the numbered yellow stickies. Hopefully I've measured each length correctly and have them in the right place to avoid having corner seams. Assuming I have sewing time each night, this quilt should be finished in the next week or so.

I was about to ask why you soak the quilt before putting on the binding; then I realized you just soaked the label! Do you soak it in something like Bubblejet or just water? I like the way you marked your corners.
ReplyDeleteLovely label. And I like your idea of including the label with the binding. I think I'll start doing that.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty label for a very pretty quilt. I like to set labels into the binding, too.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a clever way to avoid seams at the corners! I just bound a quilt this weekend and I managed to end up with all of my seams about 5 inches past each corner!
ReplyDeleteWhy do you just use your first name? Every one else gets full credit. In the future someone will not know who Kate is. It is a beautiful quilt and a beautiful label. A beautiful, caring lady needs to be honored with her full name in my opinion. I know it's difficult for me. It changed for me when I made the label for my brother's grandchildren. I wrote why the colors were chosen (both paternal great grandfathers served in WWII) and some other personal info for the twins. My nephew was touched. I want them to know who made the quilt. So I put my full name. Now we are estranged. So, it's more important that they have my name. Just a thought. Beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteLove your label. I was making labels yesterday too. Can't wait to see the finished quilt. Love what I can see there at the top.
ReplyDeleteYour list should help you keep up with the great progress you've made this year so far. I'm not good at that sticking to a list thing and let bossy quilts go first too often! Labels are another thing that I neglect...
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty label and I love the colors of the quilt---hope the binding comes out right--
ReplyDeleteenjoy the moments, di
Oh pretty pretty, beautiful label to go with a beautiful quilt. Good idea using stickers, I must remember that.
ReplyDeleteHi Kate,
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty quilt and lovely label. Why do you soak the label before affixing it? I have been using a weekly to-do list for a couple of months now and have noticed I am completely more projects this way. ~smile~ Roseanne
Hooray for a nearly completed quilt!!
ReplyDeleteGetting to the binding is always my favorite part because it means a finish is close! Blooms and Butterflies is such a pretty one, too!
ReplyDeleteGood work! You're so close to another finish!
ReplyDeleteYour label is amazing. And you are almost done!!
ReplyDeleteYour label is so cute and will look great on your quilt. Good luck finishing the binding this week! Marking the corners on your binding is a great idea, I'll have to try that.
ReplyDeleteLove your label. I hit a corner where there was a join just today in my binding. Ouch. I should have checked it better.
ReplyDeleteHi Kate, Great label. Looks like you'll be able to finish your priority this week. Good luck!
