Leader and Ender Progress for February

When I switched from sewing clothing to making quilts there was a bit of an adjustment period as the work process are a bit different.  I'm a relative slow sewer, I was always the one in class who finished each step last.  Which is OK, it's not a competition, I just never seemed to get much done while I was in class.  But there are two processes that really help on the productivity front.  Chain piecing really speeds up the assembly process, while leaders and enders allows you to make two projects at once.  Both techniques have made a big difference in how I approach quilting projects.

It's the third Tuesday, so it's time to join Cathy of A Quilting Chick by reporting on the progress of the current leaders and enders project.  At this time in January, two of the Poinsettia blocks were finished.

In the last month, another two blocks have been assembled.

It's been fun to see each block come together.  The quilt has 9 of these blocks, so there are still 5 left to assemble, as well as the sashing that goes between the blocks.  Block 5 is partially assembled and will probably be completed by the end of this week. At two a month, it's still going to be a bit before this project is completed.  That's OK, it's not a race.  I am hoping to finish this one up before Christmas this year and that is still a ways off (thankfully!).

You can see more leaders and enders projects over at A Quilting Chick.  Linking up the mid week WIP with:

  1. It's so pretty as is, I'm having a hard time envisioning how sashing will improve it. (I'll go check the mag.)

  2. You are off to a great start for a Christmas quilt, I haven't finished my 2015 one yet and it didn't even make the list in the 100 day challenge of three projects.
It's going to be lovely, looking forward to seeing your progress.

  3. Seems like a challenging project, but your are doing an excellent job. Love the secondary design between the blocks. Won't sashing take that away?

  4. I'm like Libby, I like it so well with the blocks together that I can't imagine the sashing. You may not think you are very fast, but compared to me, you turn out quite a bit (and I don't work full time or have children at home).

  5. Great leader and ender project. I really need to start one of those and not just use little scraps between chain stitching.

  6. Beautiful blocks for a leader/ender project. I tend to make simple easier blocks, so I am impressed with your progress here.

  8. Wow, that is turning out so pretty. I was always a very fast sewer, however I wouldn't say I was the most careful in sewing clothes. That probably had something to do with why I was never happy with them. I do chain piecing too. It was quite a revelation when I figured it out.
