Rainbow Scrap Challenge - A Little Orange

Nothing on the agenda for this weekend.  There will the usual laundry and working around the house a bit, but nothing pressing.  I'm really tempted to just take today and spend it in my sewing room, but there are a few other things that should get done, unfortunately.

There is one lonely orange Twinkle Star up on the design wall.

Twinkle Stars, Tutorial by Andrea Feldbush of Soscrappy

This block started off with a dark blue for the sawtooth star points, but the teal really sets off the orange much better.  I love the vibrancy of orange.  It's a good color for fall.  The cooler weather, the changing leaves, the bluer skies just make fall, at least for me, so much more vibrant then the summer months.

I'm still playing around with ideas for next year's RSC Challenge (I'm hoping that Angela is planning to continue).  A school house quilt has been on my bucket list for while.  There's a version from McCall's Quilting that has caught my eye.

The House That Kaffe Built, from McCall's Quilting

But I also came across Jo's post with her row quilt blocks and fell in love with that look.  So after a bit of playing with the paper pieced house blocks in EQ this idea surfaced.

I probably need to add some tree blocks in between the houses, but I kinda like the look of this one too.  Lots of little pieces, it would definitely make me work on my paper piecing skills.  Thankfully there is still a few months to make a decision.

I'm linking up with Soscrappy for today's Rainbow Challenge post.  Then it's time for another cup of coffee while checking out all of the fun RSC projects for this year.

  1. I've long admired the house quilt from McCalls magazine. Unfortunately there just enough time to make all the quilts I want. I'll enjoy following along on whichever pattern you choose. Hope you get time to sew today. Gretchen

  2. There may be only one, but that twinkler just sings. The turquoise is so beautiful with it! I'm also thinking of doing houses next year! Currently collecting house quilt pictures to see what I want. I guess great minds really do think alike!

  3. I love that you are already planning for next year. Houses will be so much fun to put together in all the colors of the rainbow. Paper piecing if very scrap friendly too. Plenty of time to decide. It is only September after all.

  5. Beautiful star block! The miniature school house quilt is so cute. I'm doing Bonnie Hunter's Happy Scrappy House blocks for the RSC next year.

  10. I love the new solo orange star! I saw Kaffe's houses and that would be a sweet RSC project. I have a lot of saved house paper piecing files - what fun to make that into next years project.

  15. The teal & orange Twinkle Star really sparkles! I'm a big fan of that "stencil-style" house block and would also love to do an RSC version. The paper-pieced row of houses is amazing! I don't think I would have the patience for it, but will certainly enjoy watching your houses get built if you decide to do it!

  18. Oh, no! I was trying to NARROW my list of projects for next year's RSC. I hadn't even thought about houses - what a super idea. (Argh! At this rate, I'll be doing 18 RSC projects next year and will have to give up eating or sleeping. Or both.)
I love your Twinkle Star block. That's one of the blocks you've already tempted me into making for next year...

  20. I've been thinking ahead to next year too. There are so many good ideas and examples in this year's RSC that I'm going to have a hard time making up my mind too.
