Stash Report - Week 20 of 2015

We made use of our storm shelter for the first time this storm season.  Thankfully, it ended up just being heavy rain, hail and some strong winds.  I don't think there was ever a confirmed rotation, but when the sirens go off you don't question, you just go.

I was in the sewing room when the warnings went off.  It's been easier to find time to sew in the evenings lately, but you can't tell that from this week's stash report.

Used last week:  0.48 yards
Used in May:  0.80 yards
Used year to date:  13.45 yards
Purchased year to date:  0 yards

I'm doing really well at deleting all the fabric shop emails, that's keeping my fingers off the purchase button. The nothing in has more to do with being in the black than what's going out.

If you've followed my blog very long, you know I have a thing for data and Excel charts. After playing around with all those numbers in the stash spreadsheet, I came up with a pretty good summary of my stash management efforts.

I added up all the stash additions over the last 6 years, and compared to that to the amount that's gone out over the last 6 years. It's actually better than I thought it would be.  The dark blue pie piece has actually gone up by 1% since the beginning of the year.  Maybe I can manage a couple more percent by the end of the year.

  1. I like your graphics, but I look at maintainence of fabrics in the use of it, not storing it. I have very little 'stash' compared to so many, but it is constantly being cylced. What ever amount comes in, that amount must go out.

  2. I have no idea what I have in my stash. I don't even want to think about it. IF I have more going out than in during a year, I'm feeling very good. I've decided I enjoy making most of my quilts from stash, and that it is OK to have a good sized stash to be able to do that. I just want to see if I can reduce it some to make it easier to use. MY problem seems to be UFOs having fabric that has to go back on the shelves when I finish them.

  3. If I did that, I'd be in big trouble. There is a lot of fabric here before I starting doing stash reports. I've kept a running total since and let's say, the numbers aren't good. For the rest of this year, I need to stay out of the shops and off the internet!

  4. I finally realized it's all relative to "current." What's there is there. But if I can offset what comes in by using more of what's there, then I am ahead of the game. If I were starting out now, I would probably buy just what I needed for the project at hand. Oh, well, damage done.

  5. Good on you. I think we all need to use up more of our stash

  7. You ROCK! Congratulations on the progress you are making on your stash. Lucky you have a storm shelter; I think everyone in Oklahoma should have one. It would be handy for everyone in tornado alley as well.

  8. I love your graphics! I almost want to go back and graph my additions, but that would require a few notebook searches... I really like the retrospective over six years as opposed to just one.
