I like working on more than one project at a time. It hasn't been unusual for me to have 4 or 5 quilts going at once. This year I decided to limit the number of concurrent quilt projects to just three in hopes of making more progress on individual projects. One of those is always a leaders and enders project. Poinsettias has been that project since February of 2014.

Just a few more sub units to go on this one. If these are all done by the time I finish Grand Illusion, Poinsettias will take it's place on the design wall.
Grand Illusion is moving along.
Grand Illusion, A Bonnie Hunter Mystery |
I did an inventory of all the strips that were cut and all the sub units already assembled. I'm going to stick with the original plan to make 5 rows. The last two blocks for row 4 are almost finished and I'm in assembly line mode for the last 4. I think all the blocks will done by the end of May and the borders by end of June. I'm not going to do the original pieced borders, I'm thinking simple strip borders may help calm down the business of the blocks a bit. Thankfully, I didn't get very far on the pieced blocks that Bonnie used.
The last project is the block of the month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I got behind on these when I had my business trip last month, but I'm all caught up and working on this month's green blocks.
Twinkle Stars, Tutorial by Andrea Feldbush of Soscrappy |
There's only one on the design wall at the moment, but two more should join it tonight or tomorrow.
That's it for me this week. For more sewing room progress, check out all the links over at Patchwork Times.
I love your green blocks! The greens are so bright and fun. You are making great progress on your "Grand Illusion" and your Poinsettia pieces have me intrigued. I'm looking forward to seeing how they go together.
ReplyDeleteThe poinsettia block units are intriguing! Good for you for sticking with your three-at-a-time plan. And congrats for being the first on DWM today.
ReplyDeleteLove your Twinkle Star block. I checked out the tutorial and it seems to be a lot easier than it looks. Can't wait to try it, too.
ReplyDeleteI had pretty much the same kind of weekend...except my design wall is empty right now. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are making grat progress on the poinsettia - slow and steady and enjoy. I think a plain sashing is a better choice on the Illusion - I found the other setting added too much counter pattern and ruined the lovely blocks.
ReplyDeleteMy leader ender projects always want to take over--you're doing great on the three projects with not letting one boss its way to the top dog position!
ReplyDeleteI too like to work on multiple projects at a time. I find that sometimes the "front burner" project gets buried in one of the "back burner" projects. Need to ID what I really want to finish and do more on it than the other projects. You are nearing completion on your GI. Keep going! Rah, rah, stitch that seam! (I can be a great cheerleader at times!) As usual the sparkle block looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting anxious to see our poinsettias quilt. The blocks look interesting. I also like the green star. You do very nice work.
ReplyDeleteGreat project progress Kate ...I have many projects on the go at once , and sometimes it becomes completely overwhelming . Love your idea of keeping it to a manageable number !
ReplyDeleteOh I love that green star, so pretty. Are you making them in all colors? I really like the fabrics in hte poinsettia blocks
ReplyDeleteThe Poinsettia stacks are looking good! Can't wait to see them all laid out - makes the leader/ender thing so satisfying to have all the bits done in advance!
