Stash Report - Week 50 of 2014

It's been a busy weekend, though today is likely to be slower since I seem to be coming down with some type of respiratory infection.  A scratchy throat and achy limbs have pretty much squashed any plans for shopping or housework.  We'll see if I make it to the sewing room this afternoon.  Right now the recliner seems to be a really good location.  Hopefully taking it easy today will nip this stuff in the bud.

Holiday activities have taken a toll on my stitching time.  Since I've not been able to make it to the sewing room, I've been using the bits and pieces of the time in-between errands to work on next year's quilting goals.  I'd like to finish up the Inverted Star blocks that were this year's Rainbow Scrap project, but deciding on a setting has been difficult.  I started with black sashing, but all that black seems to over power the blocks.  So what if I stick white and go with a scrappy border?

I like the keyboard border better than the black.

I'm wondering if gray would be a good choice for setting and bordering these blocks.  Obviously a bit more playing in EQ is in my future.  How do you decide on settings?

I did find some time to get in the sewing room, though it doesn't look like it amounted to much.

Used last week:  0.11 yards
Used in December:  0.41 yards
Used year to date:  32.83 yards

Most of my sewing time has been spent on Bonnie Hunter's Grand Illusion Mystery.  I'm not counting any of that fabric as out, I usually count fabric out once a block is finished.  Hopefully we'll start assembling the blocks before too long.  That will really help the stash report.

  1. I really like the white sashing and borders...I think it goes well with the color saturation of the blocks. And, I have become very partial to the keyboard/piano key borders recently. Either way you choose, it is going to be a great quilt. I hope you feel better quickly!

  2. I prefer the black quilt with the addition of the piano key border! It certainly isn't fun to be so sick that the recliner is the only place you want to be! Hope you are feeling better soon.

  3. I like the white with the piano keys! But I'm partial to sticking with the same fabrics throughout a quilt - I don't like mixing the white block backgrounds with black sashing.

  4. Both those settings look good -- love the idea of the scrappy border!

  5. I like the black, but you lose the stars in the cornerstones. I'd change them to squares.

  6. I thought I was going to prefer the white sashing, but I rather like the black sashing & border, especially with the row of triangles. They set off the stars very nicely. (But gray might look good too.)

  7. I like the black setting but agree with changing cornerstones to squares too. I'd like to see the white one with a color in the border before the piano keys or maybe a consistent color as the sashing and inner border. It is always so much fun changing colors in EQ7 to see what might work. Sometimes the least likely one you try is the one that calls to you. Good luck.
