We've reached the end of April. Unfortunately, the end of April isn't going to mean the end of the showers we've been getting this weekend. We spent about 40 minutes in the tornado shelter last night, though I don't think we were in any danger, the worst of the storm was to the north of us. The news this morning is that 9 inches fell over night just north of us. Definitely spring time in Oklahoma.
The design wall isn't empty. After finishing up a quilt and a top last week, I pulled out a WIP that got put on hold when the computer crashed. I had worked up the last block for the Moose on the Porch Fat Quarter Stars Quilt Along in EQ just before the lap top screen died. Since I didn't print off a copy of my changes or even a copy of the pattern, the project got put to the side. Last night I finished up block 12 finally.
Here's the whole set.
After playing around with the set last night, this is the final layout I liked best. Hopefully I'll start framing the blocks tonight. This top should get done sometime in May, just a couple of months behind schedule. Better late than never. At any rate, it should stay off the UFO list.
That's it for my design wall this week. Check out all the other design walls posted at Patchwork Times.
Glad you are ok - I saw the tornado warnings in your part of the state. We sure are getting lots of rain this spring. I was awaken again this morning by a storm.
ReplyDeleteI like the newest block and all of your blocks look great.

wow 9 inches of rain over night, that's a whole lot o' rain! Glad everything is ok where you are. Your blocks are wonderful. That is going to be a gorgeous quilt!
ReplyDeleteWow, 9"? We got thunderstorms, but no tornado warnings. I wonder how much rain we got.
ReplyDeleteI love the FQ Stars! They look great as a set - really need to dig mine out in May and finish!
I really like your star blocks. I may be trying to recreate your friendship star with the half square triangles in 9" for a quilt I keep putting away and not working on. Sigh. Hum, we need rain but 9"? Not at once, thank you.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty and unique star designs. I love your fabric choices. There is nothing like the drama of a red/black/ white color scheme. I can't wait to see it set !
ReplyDeleteThose blocks are terrific. Love your fabrics. I too spent some time in the basement with the tornado sirens wailing. Better safe than sorry.
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic Kate!! Your choice of colour is perfect in this, and the fabrics are gorgeous together!! This will look absolutely gorgeous once you've finished! I love all these sampler quilts!!
ReplyDeleteI don't have much to add to what everyone else has said except that I love these and might just have to check into the quilt along.
ReplyDeleteLove your color combination !

Love the block...... frightening weather... glad all is well with you!!
ReplyDeleteLove the block and hope your weather settles down!
ReplyDeleteOmigosh! Too much extreme weather has been happening already. Glad you and yours were safe except for the getting drenched if you went outside part :) Wonderful block and I like your setting.
ReplyDeleteThose blocks are great! love your colors
ReplyDeleteWhat great stars. I find that placing this kind of mix of blocks can be as or more challenging that making them but you did a good job of that, too.
ReplyDeleteI have all the patterns printed off, have the fat quarters set aside but haven't made a block. I really like yours.
ReplyDeleteI cant believe it's May already! Where is this year going?
ReplyDeleteLOVE the layout of this quilt. It;s going to be an utter beauty!
Very striking. The background fabric really works well with your black and reds. Look forward to seeing how it all comes together.

the blocks are very nice and are going to come together with an americana flavor that is really fun.i love the shirting fabric that you're using.
ReplyDeletei'm glad to hear that you are safe and sound but wonder at how nerve wracking it must be to have to go through this multiple times during any given storm season~!!~
do you do needlework while in the tornado shelter or is that a really stupid question? i have no experience with this sort of thing at all.
