Favorite Things Friday

TGIF!!!!  I am so ready for it to be Friday.  Though with deadlines looming, I'm going to have to work some this weekend.  Even so, I should be able to make time for some R&R and hopefully a little sewing.  In fact, I've already fixed when my sewing time will be this weekend as I do most weekends, during Sunday's NASCAR race.

NASCAR.Com

Why NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing)? My Dad didn't watch a lot of TV, but he as a big time motor sports guy.  Given the chance, he'd watch Indy car, stock car, motorcycle dirt track, or motorcycle cross country.  If it had at least 2 wheels and an engine, he'd watch.  Since I was a big time daddy's girl when I was little, I'd sit and watch the races with him.  It was our hang out time for about as long as I can remember.

I quit watching once I started working during the high school years, weekend time was money making time.  But I discovered when I was in graduate school that a NASCAR race was something I could put on the TV that would allow me to drown out my noisy neighbors but would play in the background so I could still study, well at least until someone crashed.   I've watched on and off over the years.  When I started quilting, I got interested again.  It's something I can turn on the TV, let it hover in the background and sew until something interesting happens.

The NASCAR Sprint cup race has become known in this house as Mom's sewing time.   So how can that not be a favorite thing?

  1. I love NASCAR racing, but admit that I haven't watched any in some time. Years ago we sponsored a race car for SPEC racing, which was a lot of fun to watch... we went to see our car in Grand Rapids, MI once and another time in Chicago. DH used to be much more into motorsports, which makes sense, because he had businesses in the automotive industries for 30 some years... the only thing I watched that was sports-related when I was growing up was racing... it was the only sport my brother didn't scream at the tv!

  2. I hope you get lots of fun stuff done during the race! Lately I've been listening to public radio when I sew, but when I do "watch" TV, it's usually something where I can mostly listen and don't have to be glued to the set, because the TV sits behind me.

    Happy FTF!

  4. This was very unexpected favourite Kate! I never would have picked you for a NASCAR fan!

It's almost knock off time in your corner of the world. I hope you have lots of great things planned for this weekend.

    Happy Friday afternoon!

  5. That was a surprise for me too. I love having a music channel on in the background, then if a favourite video clip comes on I can stop and watch it. As the TV sits behind me too, if I put anything else on I tend to stop, turn around and watch way more than I sew.
Hope you get lots of sewing done and there's not too many

  11. Great twist on FTF! I think background entertainment is a must. Do it all the time - though not NASCAR. The UK doesn't have that.
