Blocks and a Backing

It was a low key weekend, most of which I spent in the sewing room.  Not all of it at the sewing machine.  There was a fair amount of scrap sorting and fabric pressing. There was also a quick clean up of the desk and sewing area.  Most of the progress at the sewing machine was making a some blocks for Kate's Choice.

My plan is to all some more of the lighter blocks to the collection to balance out the dark green and deep purples.

The fabric for the 2024 SAHRR backing was cut and the panels all sewn together.

Now it needs a good pressing and clean up.  The plan is to have this project ready to go out when the 2023 SAHRR comes back from the quilter.

Kate's Choice is my second to oldest project and the 2024 SAHRR is one of my newest projects.  I can certainly see how my tastes in fabrics have changed and my skills improved over the intervening 12 years.  Linking up with the normal linky parties:  Design Wall Monday and Patchwork & Quilts.

  1. Good for you working on your oldest UFO. And, do I assume correctly -- you haven't started a new quilt in a while. Good for you if that is the case. I'm trying hard to stick to finishing tops and blocks. Must remember to post about some finished quilts one of these days. Have a good week.

  2. Terrific plan to add more light blocks. They are all so pretty in those colors too. What a fun backing for your SAHRR.

  3. Are you using a specific set of blocks for Kate's Choice or are you choosing as you go along? The backing fabric for SAHRR is terrific!

  4. Having an older project and a newer project going at the same time is a great way to see how your skills have evolved. Adding more lights to the Kate's Choice blocks sounds like a good idea, and I hope that making and adding to the project is really satisfying.

  5. I do like your new lighter block for Kate's Choice! I, too, have changed my taste in quilt fabric and styles in the years since I began quilting. It definitely makes it hard to want to finish those really old projects!

  6. I know what you mean about our older fabrics! However, a local florist and gift shop has asked me to make some makeup bags in pastels, in her words, like blushes, neutrals, and on the wall where they will be tucked in are dusky hues similar to older fabrics! So I'm once again mixing old with new and loving the result. Can't wait to see your SAHRR!

  7. Ooooh…I love where you’re going with Kate’s Choice. Those aren’t colors I usually put together, but it works. Very nice.

  9. You did great, adding a new, light block on Kate's Choice. SAHRR's backing matches the top perfectly, I love it! Thank you for sharing your week and your WIP.

  10. Nice job getting that back made, that’s a step that usually takes me a while. Do you have a plan for the Kate’s choice blocks yet?
