To Do Tuesday for the Week of 9/27/2022

It's been months since I last did a To Do Tuesday post and linked up with Texas Quilt Gal.  Getting back to the sewing room for my 15 minutes a day is still a struggle for me. I'm out of the habit and it's just so easy to get side tracked with other things at the moment. Hopefully writing down a few To Do's will be a good motivator.  

To Do List for 9/27/2022

1.  Finish 2 grocery bags

Grad Girl's move to Texas back in August left her short a grocery bag as she used to shop with her roommate. I made them cloth grocery bags as gifts for Easter a couple of years ago.  Now her roommate was short one too.  So Grad Girl asked if I would make her a new one and one for her two roommates that are still in grad school in Stillwater.  My Guy has also been asking for cloth grocery bags as the plastic ones pile up and it's not easy to recycle them here.  So I pulled enough fabric combinations to make 6 bags.  The bags aren't just a pile of fabrics at this point, two just require final assembly.  The plan is to get those done this week.  

2. Pull fabrics for Meadow Mist Designs Melodic Mystery.

I'm hoping that starting a new project will help me get more enthused about being in the sewing room.  I've not started a new project since last November.  

3.  Finish backing for Unity

I have one backing panel cut, but still need one more large panel, plus a 10" strip to finish the backing.  

Even if I don't finish everything on the list, any progress will be good.

Stitching Stuff: Week 37 of 2022

The last stitching stuff post was back in June, 14 weeks ago.  I really didn't intend for my break to last that long, especially not the break from my sewing room.  It's been a struggle to get back into my habit of heading to the sewing room for at least 15 minutes every day so my metrics really do look sad.  

• 15 minute days/week = 3/7 days
• 15 minute days/June = 9/30 days
• 15 minute days/July = 0/31 days
• 15 minute days/Aug = 10/31 days
• 15 minute days/Sept  = 9/24 days
• 15 minute days/2022 = 135/267 days

Now that I'm back to posting, I'm hoping that motivates me to do better at getting in my 15 minutes.  

The project that got me back into the sewing room in August was a request from Grad Girl to turn some of her finished embroidery pieces into pillows for her new apartment in Texas. 

I'm pretty sure this embroidery project has made at least one previous appearance on the blog.  The fabric is a long held peacock inspired pattern from my stash. 

I used an envelope pattern, messing with zippers just didn't appeal.  

The second pillow is Grad Girl's first non-kit. The pattern came from a magazine.  

She did such a good job picking the colors for the rainbow.  She made several trips to Hobby Lobby looking for just the right color combination.  The fabric for this one was a special purchase from the local quilt shop.  I was texting her pictures and this was what she chose.  

I'm really bad about keeping track of fabric lines, so I have no idea of manufacturer or what line it's from. It works really well with the rainbow stitching.  

It was fun turning Grad Girl's finished embroidery pieces into pillows.  I don't have a picture of them in use, but they currently reside in her living room.

Happy Autumn!!!!

I'm still not sure what happened to the summer, hard to believe it's already the first day of fall.  I've pretty much been AWOL from electronic media and my sewing room, but it was time for a break.  Between work and our busy family life this year, I was stressing myself out trying to do it all. It didn't help that my computer decided to give up it's electronic soul.  So I gave myself permission to read, binge watch Netflix, let my daughter educate me on KPOP artists and spend time with My Guy this summer.  

There's still a lot going on, but I've mostly gotten lined out on the new position at work, dealt with the Grad Girl's move to Texas, and was finally home long enough to order a new computer. I'm looking forward to catching up with everyone over the next few weeks.
