Backs and Borders Part II

The weekend was a bit of a mixed bag.  We got to see the Scientist in Training on Friday, but then My Guy got to feeling bad on Saturday.  So we spend a quiet day at home on Sunday. He's still not feeling great and has a fever. With the current guidelines at work, he has to see the doctor and I have to work from home till he's cleared.

It was a pretty good weekend in the sewing room.  I finished my August One Monthly Goal.

Storm at Sea was cleaned up, boxed up and shipped out for quilting.  So this is likely to be another finish by the end of September. I used the Frolic quilt top as my back drop as a box just isn't very exciting on it's own. A backing for Frolic is next on the to do list.

The backing for the 2019 Christmas Mystery Quilt is done.

This is one quarter of the backing. The center is a dark green (not black)/red plaid, with the red/white stripe along the sides and the holly print at the top and bottom.  Now the top and back just need a good pressing and all the loose threads removed so they can be packaged up and shipped out for quilting.  The Christmas Mystery isn't very large, so that shouldn't take me near as much time as it did to finish the Storm at Sea clean up.

Unity Step 3 is finally finished and I've made a start on the blocks for step 4.

Unity, 2020 Bonnie Hunter Sew-In-Place Quilt Along

Yes my step 4 blocks look different than Bonnie's. After playing in EQ, I just like this block better than her version. These blocks are bigger than the step 3's, so I'm hoping these go much faster. But that's still a lot of HSTs.

So lot's of forward movement, but not the most exciting photos.  The second clue for the Morewood Mystery quilt should come out this week, so I should have something new to post next week.  Linking up with Elm Street Quilts, Monday Making and Monday Design Wall.

  1. So sorry your guy is under the weather. Hope it doesn't turn into anything too much! I like your new stars for the Unity quilt! It looks like they're going to create a ribbon effect as the move around the quilt.

  2. if he has to get tested tell him to ask for the quick test if he can - that is what my nephew did and he found out he had covid within hours and was able to quarantine right away and then my sister and his wife and children were able to all be tested right away too = he is on the mend now and no one else in his immediate family had it.
    Hope he will be ok.

  4. Great work. You’re really moving things along. I kind of think borders and backings is the most tedious part of quilting. It’s hard to be very creative with the backs, especially for a large quilt. Your Christmas backing looks great.

  5. I really, really like your next round of blocks. My Unity quilt has stagnated after round 3. I ran out of one of the colors I was using, so for now it's hanging in my sewing room closet while I decide if it's going to become larger or get finished as is.

  6. I hope that your husband feels better soon and that you don't catch whatever he has! Congratulations on getting Storm at Sea boxed and shipped out and I hope you have a great week.

  7. Wow! You seem to be moving along really fast to me! It seems to me you might have several finishes between now and the end of the year. I hope your long armer can keep up with you. Hope all is well with hubby.

  8. Everything is coming along. Looks like you might have several bindings in your future! I had a test Friday for Tuesday procedures. I tested "detected", they don't call it positive. No symptoms, no known cause of my "positive" result. We are clueless where I could have been exposed as I have been masked up everywhere I've gone, which isn't very many places, and taken every precaution! I am so over this.

  10. I hope all is well with both you and hubby! It's so scary right now to not feel well in any way. I like that you used another quilt as the backdrop of your box photo! All your projects are moving forward nicely.

  11. Well working from home sure cuts down on commute time!
Your quilt progress is looking good. Bonnie does use a lot of small units and your change should help this quilt move along faster.
Congrats on getting another top out to be quilted. I'm waiting on a backing to send out another of mine--not looking forward to the clean up on the back either.

  12. Hope your husband is feeling better, it must be extra stressful to come down with a fever these days. Congrats on achieving your monthly goal and getting the Christmas back done!
