This N That

It was a very slow paced weekend, with laundry, household chores and naps on the agenda.  The work from home set up just isn't as ergonomic as my office set up and my back has been very unhappy.  So much so that I've not been sleeping very well.  So the naps were very necessary, but I didn't get as much done in the sewing room as a consequence.

The big accomplishment for the weekend was getting the backing for Mosaic Mystery all pressed, dethreaded and ready for shipping.

The quilt top is on the agenda for the same treatment next weekend.

Then there was a stitching detour to make a couple more masks.

My Guy goes back to the office today as part of phase 1 of the return to office plan.  I don't go back till next Monday.  He needed two more face masks so he'd have one for each work day.  Since I'm almost out of elastic and need to make myself three more masks before then, I tried a pattern from Laundry Basket Quilts that uses T-shirt strips as the earpieces.  My Guy isn't a fan of the face mask itself, but said the ear pieces work just fine. So I'm going to try the top mask design with the t-shirt earpieces next.  (Our company is providing surgical masks, so we aren't required to bring our own, but we can if we prefer. My Guy tried one of the surgical masks when he was in last week and much prefers the home made ones).

There was some progress on Unity as well.

2020 Bonnie Hunter Sew-In-Place Quilt Along

The first border of step 2 has been sewn on and I've got a good start on the second border.  It will probably take me all this week to finish off this step.  I'm way behind but that's fine, I'm enjoying the process.

That was my week of stitching stuff.  Linking up with Monday Making, the Monday Design Wall and Main Crush Monday.

  1. I'm having similar physical problems with working at home. The set up just doesn't function as well, and our bodies are paying for it.
    Unity is looking great!

  2. gosh I bet that will be uncomfortable wearing a face mask at work all day - it is bad enough for the time I go in the grocery store until I get back to the car. I find them hot.

  4. Sounds like a relaxing weekend. Good luck with your return to work process. Your quilt looks great. My day is going to be spent on those square in a square blocks too. The poppies have a similar border. I might break down and make a couple more masks too. Mike’s doctor’s office gave him a homemade one, and it’s so much more comfortable than the N95 we were using. Mike prefers the tie around the back style, but I like the ear pieces. So I snagged his homemade one, but we really need a couple of extras for when we’re washing the used ones.

  5. I've made masks with the t-shirt earpieces and we like them, too. I hope your back does better for you this week - it's no fun having to spend your weekend nursing a sore back.

  6. I have decided that on all my QALs I am not behind, I am just on pace with my own schedule! LOL. Everything is coming together, even if your time is limited!

  7. Mask sewing seems to be a necessity right now. I'm curious how long we will need to be making (or remaking) them into the future. I hope your back gets some relief and that you are safe as things begin to reopen around you.

  12. Oh, I'm so in the same boat on the back pain! I finally went into my workplace on Friday and got my desk chair to bring home (with my supervisor's permission, of course). I think that has helped.

I've found that I like the masks with ties better, though I will remember t-shirt strips if I need an elastic substitute in the future.

  13. I like your masks - so pretty! And so weird to always have to wear them..... what a new phase in our lives eh? Love your unity - it is coming along beautifully!

  14. I am sorry to hear your back is bothering you. It is good you took time to nap. I don't know if you keyboard much at work, but I tell my keyboarding students how important it is to have good ergonomics and technique. I have been wondering about them doing their assignments at home sitting on their bed with a laptop in "their lap". Do their backs hurt? Probably not because they are young.

  15. My back was bad at the beginning too and it still isn’t perfect, but I usually put ice on it twice a day and then also heat if needed. The ice helped a ton! I also wound up buying an ergo chair as I think I will be home for at least a few more months. Hope your return goes well, nice to see the different mask styles you’ve made.
