To Do Tuesday

It's been very, very different the last week. I've been working from home since last Wednesday.  The Scientist in Training has been home for spring break.  It's been good to have her hanging out with us, though all of our shopping and family outings were canceled.  I've been AWOL from the blog and the sewing room for the last week.  It's been hard to adjust to the new normal.  After spending all day working on the computer and coping with the news, we've chosen to spend the evenings and last weekend together as a family. So there wasn't a lot of progress on last week's To Do List.

Weekly To Do List (03/17/2020)
Twinkle Stars: Print label, attach binding - progress
Mosaic Mystery: Add third border - no progress
Frolic: Make 2 dk blue blocks, start stitching rows together - progress

I'm hoping to do better this week.  Here's the plan for the next seven days.

Weekly To Do List (03/24/2020)

1. Twinkle Stars: Print label and attach binding. The SIT finally wrote out the message she wanted on the label.  I've updated the label, but need her to check it before printing it out on fabric.

2. Mosaic Mystery: Add third border.

3.  Frolic:  Finish off the dk blue blocks, continue assembling the rows.

There was a bit of progress on getting the last two dark blue blocks made. The only visible progress on the design wall is that the sashing strip has been sewn to the upper left corner.

4.  Butterfly Medallion:  Stitch on for 15 minutes

This was about the only stitching I got done this week. The embroidery is something that could be worked on while we all hung out in the living room.

That's my To Do List this week. Hopefully I'll get more done this week than I have the last two.  Linking up with To Do Tuesday over at Home Sewn by Us.

  1. Adjusting to the "new normal" has been hard! I work in an "essential" field of research so we are not completely shut down, but we are supposed to be working from home as much as possible.

I am loving your Frolic progress! I am still working on making my full blocks for my enlarged quilt. Oof. Maybe that was a bad idea.

  2. Beautiful projects. I now have two college sons home--I love it but yes, it has totally thrown my peaceful days. Slowly getting into our norm...I guess.

  3. It is so strange how quiet it is here now. Every afternoon there are people biking or walking with kids but less and less cars going by. I have a hard time getting the momentum going to do the next thing in sewing. Last night with the puppy leaning on my leg, I didn't want to get up. I was enjoying the love and decided to forego the sewing and relax. We can be easy on ourselves. Your frolic is lovely! Good to have some hand-sewing at hand. Maybe I should put my next hand-work piece next to my chair so I can continue it. Wishing you the best!

  4. it is hard to adjust to the new normal if you are normally out all the time - I have come to realize I spent too much time running to the grocery store to pick up a couple items - crazy really but now I sit home with a fairly stocked pantry the main thing I will run short of is fresh veggies! At least I managed to stock up on toilet paper before it got really crazy - and some told me I didn't need to stock up a week before so many others did - I'm glad I did now

  5. I'm sure it's a relief to have the SIT home with you, Kate. The quilting tasks will be there when you are ready for them. Stay well!!

  6. We are all having to find a new normal. Stay safe and be well. And remember your sewing is your slice of sanity in this mad world.

  7. Good to see you back. I worried a bit since Sunday. Everything that is going on right now has everything topsy-turvy. Good luck with your goals for the coming week.

  8. I think you aren't alone in being away from the blog. I've noticed fewer posts in my inbox lately, depending on the day. I think we're all trying to adjust to this "new normal". Finding ways to live together is so important right now, and I think taking the evenings for family time is great. I hope someday we can look back on this as a "remember when" - I just don't know when that will be!

  10. Glad you have your SIT home safe and sound. The sewing will be there when you're ready to get back to it. A little embroidery now and then sounds like just the thing right now!

  12. Hi Kate! It seems like there are two distinct camps. Either people are sewing their heads off or they are not sewing at all. I am definitely in the latter camp. It sounds so much better to me to be spending time with your family. {{Hugs}} Your embroidery is coming along nicely! This working from home has really thrown me off, although you'd think having extra time from no commute would be a benefit. Good luck with this week's list, and thanks for linking up. ~smile~ Roseanne

  14. Even though I already work from home and haven't had to change my routine much, it's still difficult to focus. I understand a bit how you feel. It's good that you have your family with you during this stressful time. Frolic is going to be fantastic when it's done - all those beautiful colors! I hope you make a lot of progress on your list this week!

  15. They haven't cancelled her school? BioGirl's has been cancelled and her graduation postponed. It's crazy. Good luck on finding stitching time!

  16. I think the part about really spending time with our families, at home, is a blessing. The reasons why, not so much.

I have really been pondering how much I love my husband lately. Good things are coming out of this if we look for them.

  17. Someone on some podcast said that we are about to discover who is a good cook and who is an alcoholic, thanks to these strange times :-D
The butterfly is looking good :-) Wishing you better luck with sewing next week but above all be safe.

  18. It has been a big adjustment for me too. I just finished week 3 and finally feel like I have a new normal, although we know every minute it isn’t normal. My calls typically start with a check-in to make sure everyone is doing ok, and then we get on to business. Hope that you are adjusting a bit each day. Don’t forget to take breaks and stretch! And hope you have some time for sewing or stitching this weekend!
