Week 52 of 2019: Stitching Stuff

We've reached the last week in the year!  Just three more days in 2019 to work in a bit of stitching before the new year starts up.  Did you manage to keep up with finding 15 minutes to stitch during the week of Christmas?

It was an interesting week with My Guy in the hospital for emergency surgery and recovery just before Christmas. I got in a bit of hand work while sitting at the hospital with him, except for Christmas Eve.  We went from the doctor telling us he'd be in the hospital for the holiday, to we're discharging him this afternoon. Stitching just didn't happen that day.

15 minute days/week = 6/7 days
15 minute days/December = 27/28 days
15 minute days/2019 = 329/362
Success rate = 90.43%

I'm still on track to clear my goal of stitching 90% of the days in 2019.  I'll wrap up my 2019 stitching stats next Sunday.  I'm trying to decide what I want my 2020 stitching goals to be.  There doesn't seem to be any relationship between sewing 15 minutes every day and finishing off projects, though I made lots of progress this year on many things.  But with work and family obligations, I'm not sure >90% success rate is realistic for next year. What are your plans for finding time to stitch next year?

How did your holiday stitching work out?  Link up and share how you managed to fit a bit of sanity stitching (or last minute Christmas stitching?).

  1. Setting goals that you can live with is important. Unless 2020 is a stretch year for you, keeping it doable makes it more fun and less frustrating. I do a lot of hand work, which fits in nicely late in the day or during lunch.

  2. Well, I'm going to try and stitch daily again. I know that I won't be able to accomplish that every day, but I've done OK this year. I find I do feel better if I'm doing something with my hands. I am going to get my hexagon projects together and try and have that by my chair to either work on or crochet.
    Happy New Year!

  3. I did really well this year--and will do a full report after the first of the year--
but I had a Inchy to stitch every day and they always took 20-30 minutes each day---so I probably cheated with doing them--they will finish on New Year's Eve and I don't plan to do them in 2020 at least not one daily--
but now that I am moved and settled and have a good sewing machine now--I do plan to get back to more actual sewing and quilt making--
we all need goals--but sometimes I think we are too hard on ourselves--so maybe a goal for during the week and take the week end off--or--put done a week end goal and take the pressure of the work week--just a thought!!
    luv, di

  4. I took hand stitching with me to Branson and planned to spend my evenings quietly sewing and chatting with family. It didn't work out that way. Dd with two little boys stayed until bedtime every night and I found out that there is no sitting quietly with a 3 and 5 year old in the house.

  5. This was my first year and I loved it. I did more stitching during the holidays. It is so nice to be in the new home with a sewing H.Q.! for my supplies. Thanks so much for hosting the link-up. It's fun!

  6. With the emergency surgery and events surrounding it, I'm surprised you got in the 15 minutes. Yay for handwork! Once again, I'm going to try this, starting on January 1. I got through several weeks this year before things went haywire, but I'm going again! I've suggested it to others, too. 15 minutes of playtime, at least! I will only be going for 6 days a week - no sewing on Sundays. I'm excited to count and see how many days I do sew! Maybe I'll keep track of how long, on a spread sheet - no I'm not an engineer, but I do love numbers!

  7. You have kept me going this year. There hasn't been many days where I haven't sewed. Hope your guy is on the mend now. Have a lovely belated Christmas Celebration and quiet new year.

  8. I know that I just can't always make the 15 minutes; I stopped tracking about halfway into 2018. But I do make an effort to sew as many days as I can. I probably hit between 80-90 percent. Sometimes I get big windows and sometimes I get small windows. I'd rather that they all be big pieces of time, of course, but that's just not the reality of my life.

I hope that your husband continues to heal and gain strength and that you and your family have a fabulous new year!

  9. I am pretty pleased with how much crafting time I had this year - I’ve balanced the three crafts a little better in 2019 than I did in prior years. I don’t know what my goals are for 2020 yet, need to do some deep thinking over the next few days! Thanks so much for hosting the link-up each week!

  10. Hi Kate. I am hoping to get a lot done on 2020. I noticed when I moved my sewing room that I couldn't find anything. It resulted in a lack of desire to quilt. I am rolling again though.
