Contemplating Frolic

It was a gorgeous weekend weather wise and an enjoyable one cause we got to hang out with the Scientist in Training. My Guy has been pretty much house bound the last 4 weeks as he's been recovering from surgery. He definitely needed the change of scenery.

A trip out of town over the weekend coupled with a few late nights at work, meant I didn't get much more than 15 minutes of stitching in a few nights.  So not that much has changed on the design wall.  After we got back last night I played catch up on the 2019 Christmas Mystery blocks.

Clue 4 is almost done and I need to pick the fabrics for clue 5.

Bonnie Hunter released the fabric requirements for Frolic on Halloween.  I've never gotten the paint chips, I just shop the stash to see what can be pulled together out of what I've already got.  That proved to be pretty easy.  The last decision to make is am I sticking with the light neutral Bonnie is using or do I go off palette and go with black?

What do you think, white or black?  The blue bonnet fabric was in the stash and will likely be the backing for this project. I'm going to start with half the blocks and decide how big to go after the reveal. There's enough of each fabric to make the full size version should I want to.

That's it for me this week.  Linking up with Monday Making and Monday Design Wall.

  1. Beautiful fabrics for Bonnie's mystery. I love the way the colors pop against the black.

  3. Glad you and your Guy were able to get away for a bit! Your fabric choices for Bonnie's mystery are beautiful - I love that floral! I would have a hard time deciding between the white and black also, so no opinion here. :)

  4. Your Christmas blocks are so cute. As for the Bonnie Hunter, I think you could use either, but if I’m forced to choose, I’d probably pick white.

  5. The dresden tree is darling -- I love it! I hope your hubby is feeling better and better with each day. I'd have to vote black, too. Love your color choices!!!! :)

  6. I have a piece of that floral fabric too (not sure if they are bluebonnets or some other flower), but only a half yard at most so it would go far. I'm still debating about the mystery this year and haven't tried to pull fabrics yet. I'd go with the black. Less loose thread trimming clean up needed before quilting.

  7. Tough choice! I like the black if you aren't going to go scrappy. Whites/creams seem to work better scrappy, in my mind.

  8. Black - I see the black in the focus fabric! I have some bluebonnet fabric in my stash from years back so I just may do this one, but not until I see the finish! I like to know where I am going! LOL

    Your fabrics will be perfect!

I vote white for the mystery :)

  10. I love your colour pull for the mystery; I'm leaning towards the white as background only because the royal blue kind of disappears, but man I love black to make jewel tone colours sing...Now I look again at the photos, I see the royal blue in the print is against the black and looks fine, so I dunno! I'm no help... Glad you got some SIT time!

  11. I love your fabrics!!! You're not going to go wrong with white or black. I think I like the white, but colors always pop against black--hard decision! Good news is it will be stunning either way!

  12. I see you have a lot of opinions already! The bluebonnet fabric is great - I think the colors pop a little more on the black, but without knowing the design, who knows which would suit it better - go with your gut!
