Week 11 of 2019: Stitching and Destashing

Weekends at the end of rush around weeks are so nice.  My big work project for the year had things due this week, those got checked off the list on Friday.  My Guy spent his week overseeing the 5th grade science demos for 16 elementary schools (850 students).  I worked both the morning and afternoon sessions on Thursday, then helped with break down and clean up. The demos are a lot of fun, but it was a mental work out keeping the larger groups engaged and out of trouble during my demonstration. How the teachers handle a class of 26 kids every day is beyond me.

With all that going on last week, it would have been easy to completely give up on finding just 15 minutes to stitch each day.

I got home late a couple of nights due to project work and running errands for My Guy.  It would have been so easy to just collapse in the recliner each night, but knowing I have to post my success/failure on this front is usually enough motivation for me to get up to the sewing room for at least a few minutes. It was actually a decent week on that front.

15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
15 minute days/Mar = 16/16 days
15 minute days/2019 = 72/75 days
Success rate = 96%

So definitely not a bad week, though there were a couple of nights where I just barely made my 15 minutes.  Still I was able to see progress on a couple of projects.  You can share how your stitching went this week by linking up at the bottom of the post.

The stash report doesn't look too bad this week.

Fabric out this week = 0.71 yards
Fabric out in 2019 = 16.91 yards
More out than in for 2019

I'm doing better on using fabric this year then I did last year. So I'm happy with that.  Linking up with Quiltpaintcreate for the weekly stash report.

On a completely unrelated note, the weather is slowly starting to improve.  It's been nice enough a couple of evenings for some short walks. I took the camera with me on my first walk of the spring and found this guy hanging out down the road.

My Guy is the birder in the family.  He's identified this bird in flight as a Red Tailed Hawk. This one is half of the pair of hawks that have taken up residence in the open fields east of our house.  It's still pretty brown so there wasn't much else to photograph.  I'm hoping to see more green and a few wild flowers start to pop up on my walks as spring finally takes hold.

So how did you stitchy week go?  You can share how you did at finding time to move a few projects forward.

  1. We have a nesting pair of hawks near us too. It definitely cuts down on the mice and squirrels.

  2. I love seeing Hawks in flight, so stunning. I got my 7/7, but somedays it was more organizing than crafting. The knitting is what pulled me through most days.

  3. I enjoy your blog and subscribe to you through my feedly feed. I am not sure that I've ever left a comment, but I had to tell you that I was amazed and thrilled to see your photo of the red-tailed hawk! I live in SD, and I rarely drive to Rapid City (an hour from me) without seeing several raptors--hawks and eagles. Thanks for your posts about your 15-minutes-a-day commitment: it is inspiring!

  4. It would be easier to hit the recliner, but your 15 minute goal has helped me on more than one occasion - thanks

  5. Beautiful hawk photo! We enjoy seeing the hawks around here, too. You can always tell when one is nearby - the little birds are nowhere to be found! Great job doing a little sewing even with such a busy week. When I was still working, even a few minutes a day helped with my mental health!

  6. It sounds like you had a really busy week at work and home, and still found time to go for a walk. Impressive! I love your photo. Was the bird as close as it looks or did you use a zoom?

  7. Good work on getting in your 15 minutes of stitching time every single day. That is especially impressive during such a busy week!

  8. Nice photo capture of the red tail. My daughter is a birder (and now does field research on birds for her career), so we have spent many hours watching the sky. It's amazing what you see when you are looking for it! I've been really lazy today, but reading your post tells me I should just go sew for 15 minutes. I'm sure I'll feel better for doing it. Thanks!

  9. You're doing a fabulous job on the stitch days! In a regular classroom, students know the routine, have somewhere to be, things they are responsible for doing. In the situation where you had them, it's a little trickier. My largest class in 28 years of teaching was 36. When students are part of the classroom governance and have bought in to the system, it's easy to keep most of them on task most of the time. =)

  10. Beautiful picture of the hawk. We didn't see many birds on our trip, you usually see small falcons on the way up the highway but I only saw a few pelicans and lots of dead kangaroos on the side of the road.
7 out of 7 is a great week even though you were busy.

  11. Wow that is a great picture of the hawk, and wow that you were able to stitch every day as busy as you were. I commend you and your husband for doing all that for the kids.

  13. I got a quilt finished, a new project kitted and started, and some cross stitch items finished - most of it over the weekend, a good week for sure! Love the picture of the hawk - we see them behind our house from time to time too.

  14. Great job getting those 15 minutes in. I had a couple of slide in days myself but they all count.

  15. Beautiful picture! We've enjoyed a lot of wildlife in our neighborhood recently. We saw a coyote a few weeks ago, and a pair of hawks on Saturday. We have bird feeders out and get lots of birds. And squirrels. We have lots of squirrels.
