The Twinkle Star blocks are still in progress. I would like to get all the blocks made before that project goes back into the box to finish later. Another 4 blocks were finished up last week.

The teal and orange finish off what's needed for those two colors. From here on out, the blocks will all be blue to finish the diagonal row that was added to make the quilt bigger. My favorite in this set is the blue one made from the chemistry fabric left overs from the SITs quilt.
The plan for 2018 was to focus on cleaning up the UFO lists, so I've tried really hard to not start anything new. But I can't resist a good mystery and our local quilt shop is offering a Halloween Mystery quilt along over the next four weeks. The only yardage required is the background, the rest can be from scraps. Since I'm not doing the quilt along with Meadow Mist Designs this year, there is an open slot on my new project list for 2018. So I decided to join in. The first clue came out on Saturday. There are two blocks in clue one, you make two of one and just one of the second. Here are my first two.

The two witches hats were made from fat quarters that were already in my stash. When I went looking for black, orange and gray fat quarters for the project, I found a number of Halloween prints in the black and orange. The light gray background was used in one of the graduation quilts, so it's one of those left overs in the stash. I've gotten started on the second block in clue one, but nothing photo worthy. I just have to show progress on my blocks from the previous clue to get the next clue for free, so I'm good on that front for next week. I do hope to finish the second block before Saturday, but it has quite a few more pieces than these two did. I really do love a good mystery!

ReplyDeleteI’m with you on trying not to start any new projects until the old ones are done. I have some old ones that are more than five years old, and I really want to get them finished. Just recently, however, I was thinking about how I was bored with everything in the sewing room, and a new project would spice things up. Resisting so far. I love your twinkle stars. It’s such a pretty star pattern.

ReplyDeleteA Halloween mystery quilt sounds like fun! Another way to use some scraps and fabric you already have, too. Your stars always look great - I may have to go check out Angela's tutorial and try one just to see how they are made!

By the way, did you use the ruler she used on the Twinkle Stars or did you use another method for making them?
DeleteYou cannot resist a good mystery!!! Well, Kate, how do you it is good when it is a mystery? I am too much of a control freak to participate in mystery QALs. The Twinkle Stars are lovely and the witches hats are cute. But the ORL blocks are murder :-p So good luck to you on finishing those.
