Weekend Stitching: Christmas in May?

It was a beautiful weekend, spring is definitely here.  We worked outside most of Saturday morning (and are still feeling it this morning).  Sunday morning was housework with a heavy dose of sewing room time in the afternoon.  The plan was to get all of the Vintage Dress blocks sewn together.  That got done, now to figure out what to do for the border.

As much as I'd like to be finished with the dresses, I'm beginning to think this one needs pieced borders.  I'm going to play with that idea this week, plus raid the stash to see if there is something that makes a great frame on it's own.  Creating the frames with the sashing took a bit of time, but I really like how it worked out.   

 Now that Vintage Dresses is in one piece, I can have the design wall back to play with this month's OMG.  For some reason, the dark green photographs as black when the blocks are up on the design wall. The quilt is really red and green.  


The blocks are all done, but the layout needs to be finalized before I can start stitching the rows together.  This is close to final.  There may some more shuffling around of the angel blocks this evening, but I'm hoping to get a start on sewing the rows together tonight after work.

    Both quilts look fabulous. I love how the dresses turned out. Now I’ll be curious to see what you do with the borders.

    Those dresses are so great. Yes, definitely audition some border ideas. The right one will speak to you. Maybe a single fabric will do it. I'd be careful not to do too busy of a border as you want the dresses and their cool sashing to shine through. You are definitely making progress. The angel blocks are looking great.

    Love the angel quilt. It is great to have a design wall so that you can stand back and look at the quilt as a whole and see how you like the placement.
    The dresses are amazing.

    Both are wonderful, but I can't stop looking at Vintage! I just keep looking at all those pretty "dresses". I am sure you will come up with the perfect borders for it.

    The extra effort to frame those dresses was so worth it! I thought all you had left to do was the binding. And you're going to piece a border? Oh my goodness, I don't think I could handle that. If it were mine, I would be sticking binding on there right now! Ha! Ha!

    Ohh--I love the Dress quilt that you are gifted me--oh wait--it wasn't me you where making it for--oh well---it is still just beautiful and I love the way you have set off the dresses--glad you got some nice sewing time in over the week end--

    That sashing is amazing! I know that it was complicated and time consuming to make, but it is so awesome with the dresses.

    Love the dresses. Is that Christmas quilt a rework of Bonnie Hunter's En Provence?

    Oh Kate, Vintage Dresses is coming together as beautiful as the early pictures promised, I love it so much. I’m rubbish at paper piecing but I’ve saved the pic to use as inspiration. One of my favourite ever quilts.
