I did get in some stitching. All the rows of Geek Chic are sewn together, so that much got wrapped and given to the SIT with her other gifts. She loved it. Now to get the border on it and get the backing pieced so it can go out for quilting. There wasn't time for photos before it was wrapped, hopefully I'll have some later this week.
Two more Perkioman Valley blocks from the Ventura Modern Quilt Guild were finished.
So these four will go out in the mail to Carol over at From My Carolina Home to be used in quilts for the California Thomas Fire victims.
After playing around with the block pieces for Bonnie's On Ringo Lake mystery and staring at the options on the design wall, I finally decided to just make the blocks according to her directions.

The fabric choices this year didn't work really well. The gray is really too dark and doesn't show up against the black and boy the yellow really dominates the block. It does look better with the sashing strips added. I'll use up the pieces that are already made and see how many blocks that makes and go from there.

ReplyDeleteYou are sure correct - the weekends go by WAY too quickly! Saturdays always whip by - probably because we are having fun doing errands or catch up stuff. I can see what you mean about your gray being dark in On Ringo but the blocks still turned out nicely. Perhaps different that what you expected, but worthy of finishing anyway. At least I think so! ~smile~ Roseanne
I like that you're giving ORL your own spin with your colors, and I actually like how the yellow is featured. I'm sure you can make the blocks work for you, knowing that you can audition optional settings or sashing or alternate blocks in EQ.
ReplyDeleteI like your yellow, red, and black together! Sometimes those darker colors are hard to photograph, but look good in real life. You reminded me that I'm planning to make some of those blocks to send to Carole, too. I'd better get on that!

ReplyDeleteYours and my Perkiomen blocks would play very nicely together if they get sewn up into a quilt top together! Too bad on the Ringo Lake mystery...that's the trouble with mysteries but I still think they're fun!

Well, I love your Ringo Lake blocks. I can see why you think the gray is too dark, but really, it looks fine. Also, I love your scrappy blue. That would make a pretty Rainbow Scrap block.
ReplyDeleteI actually really like the dominant yellow in your blocks. It makes a very cool pattern and looks strikingly different than many of the other ORL pieces. It's almost Amish looking to me. I'm glad SIT liked her Geek Chic!
ReplyDeleteKate, I really like your Ringo blocks! The effect of the values is completely different from BH's, but who cares whem it turns out nice? Your contrast is attractively striking, and the gray/black interplay creates a visually simpler pattern with a non-boring background. It makes it look like the yellows and reds are floating. Super cool.
