It's been an eventful week. We became empty nesters on Wednesday.
Drama Teen (aka Scientist in Training or the SIT), moved into her dorm room last Wednesday. She's been keeping really busy, she's already working on her first assignment for the school's newspaper. I've been keeping busy too. To avoid the quiet house on Thursday when My Guy went out for his bike ride, I went to the local quilt shop for some fabric petting therapy. I did more than pet, there was a fabric line that just had to come home with me.
Geek Chic by Studio E Fabrics was just too geeky for me to pass up. Plus the Scientist in Training is enrolled as a chemistry major and she really needs an extra long twin quilt that fits better on her dorm bed. I am now in search of an equally geeky quilt pattern to start and hopefully finish before Christmas.
Needless to say, I did some damage on the incoming side of the stash numbers, but those numbers are being ignored since the train has long left the station on having any success on using more than I buy this year. There was a little fabric in the out column this week.
Fabric used this week: 0.5 yards
Fabric used year to date: 42.58 yards
I didn't do so hot on the finding time to stitch this last week. Between helping the SIT pack, trooping through 100 F+ temps on move in day and a major bought of dizziness due to sinus issues, there were only 4 days this last week spent in the sewing room. There are just weeks like that sometimes.
Linking up with Quiltpaintcreate for the weekly stash report.
This is hard. Our DD had a problem with the dorm and we've been up a few times this week.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I'm wondering if my son will ever move out. Cute fabric.
ReplyDeleteThe science fabric is wonderful, Kate! It will make the perfect quilt for DT. Hope she has a good start to her college experience!
ReplyDeleteOh wow...Love that fabric! I know it's a sad day when they leave the nest, but I can't help being excited for her and this new phase of her life. Yours too!
ReplyDeleteGlad she's getting settled in and hope things go smoothly for her. Love the new moniker for DT! Our youngest entered college as a junior, so no dorm for her. We sure missed her too, when she was in AZ. Hope you're feeling better soon and can plow into the fun fabric.
ReplyDeleteOh wow it really is happening--empty nest time--but more sewing time maybe--and I really love that new fabric line you got for a quilt for her==it is perfect--!!!!! Been having alot of sinus issues here too-and days where I feel like I am having trouble breathing even--and breathing is soooo important!!!
ReplyDeleteenjoy the moments, di
Empty nesting...those first days can be tough. Totally understand about petting fabric therapy - I've done that many times! Cute fabric! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGoing to the quilt shop was kismet! I really like the fabric selection you picked out for SIT's new dorm quilt. Following in her mom's footsteps must be pretty exciting for you.
ReplyDeleteEmpty nest is so hard. And how did that happen anyway? I'm so out of touch. The last I knew your daughter was in junior high. My advice is to keep busy.
ReplyDeleteOh, gracious! I must confess that, as an empty nest is 18 away, I feel a mite of excitement at the idea of it. I hope the bitter doesn't last long and the sweet grows! Good luck to SIT!
ReplyDeleteHope that your daughter does well in school - I love the fabric you added and bet she will love the quilt, whatever it turns out to be! Hope you get used to the new quiet in the house soon and that you have some down time coming! Between all the work travel, the grad quilts, and the graduate, you've had a busy year!
ReplyDeleteLove the science fabrics you found! Good luck to SIT at college and to you at home. It's both exciting and bittersweet.
ReplyDeleteThat's about twice what I had in the sewing room, but I wasn't missing my child. I was happy to be alone. LOL Those are great science fabrics. I live near Oak Ridge, and there is a quilt shop there, Atomic Fibers, which gets every space and science fabric, I think. I'll have to look for this one!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is the coolest fabric ever! The free pattern on the Studio E site for the Double Helix quilt is pretty neat, but doesn't use a lot of different fabrics. You'll find the perfect pattern. Careful, though. All her dorm mates may want one when they see it!
ReplyDeleteVery cool fabric! I hope that your daughter is enjoying college!
ReplyDeleteLove this fabric line - works well with with both boy/girl themes. I am sure SIT will do well and eventually you will too. Have you set your September OMG yet. That may help getting your mojo back.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw that fabric, I thought, "that's perfect!" So glad to know it will go into a quilt for your Daughter SIT. I hope you are slowly adjusting to having your daughter away at school.
ReplyDeleteFun times for both sides of this"equation". I hope she isn't so far away that you can't sneak in a few visits. Sewing time will come --eventually. Love the whole idea of those fabrics. So bright.
