Your Grand Illusion quilt looks wonderful! I like your fabric choices, and the fact that yours is not scrappy makes it much less busy than the scrappy ones. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Julie, a lot less busy than the scrappy versions. I like your clear colors, but I still think the pattern looks like confetti strewn about .....
ReplyDeleteBonnie does love busy, eh? I love your version - the plain borders were the perfect choice. A happy summery quilt!
ReplyDeleteIt was a very busy and stressful pattern, but I agree with the others that the choice of consistant color tamed this. And the solid borders really work well to frame it. Congratulations on the flimsy finish.
ReplyDeleteI like the cool mint/teal border. GI was not my favorite BH mystery, though I've seen some wonderful interpretations.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's just gorgeous, Kate. I love that green.
ReplyDeleteThis pattern is so pretty and I love how bright yours is. Great job!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is the best version of Grand Illusion that I have seen! I think you did a great job of picking colors, especially considering that you had no idea what the quilt was going to look like. Beautifully done!
ReplyDeleteYours is a wonderful version of Celtic Solstice. Yes, the borders do help to contain the excitement. I'm really impressed you have it finished in less than a year. You'll have it on a bed before the next one begins! Good for you.
ReplyDeleteYah... GI is not my favourite mystery, but your version is bright and happy and dramatic!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finished the top!
Love seeing your GI quilt top finished! It is so pretty in solids!
ReplyDeleteI truly like all the bright colors. The design is busy, but there's so much to look at, I just want to keep staring at it to see what else I find. Great job finishing the top!
ReplyDeletePS...I should quit blogging more often. I stitched up 3 pinwheel blocks for pillows, a matching pinwheel table runner, and a baby quilt! Now I'm finishing up a t-shirt quilt I started last Winter. Sewing life is pretty good!
I don't think the colors are too bright - I love this quilt! The borders are a great addition and I can't wait to see it quilted!
ReplyDeleteYou did a rally good job with picking colours. That is the part always scare me off and I tend to just pick out fatquarter bundles so I don't have to think :))
ReplyDeleteI love the color choices, the teal, green and pink having similar value but one on the opposite side of the color wheel gives great motion to the interior of the quilt. And when you get tired of moving around the inside, you get to take a break on the soothing border. Then back in for more fast paced quilty fun. Love this one.
ReplyDeleteGood job to get your Grand Illusion all sewn; it looks great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great finish!
ReplyDeleteI think your Grand Illusion is one of the best color combinations I've seen on the net. This was not one that I did. Still haven't finished the last two. The solid borders do calm it down, but I like bright, so I'd be happy if it were mine. Can't wait to see your pieced backing for it.
