I've actually made some progress on both design walls this week. On the small design wall, I've finished up more of the sashing for Grand Illusion.

I'm still not sure how much I like this quilt, but I'll use up all the blocks I've got made and then decide what to do with it.
On the big design wall, the Rainbow Challenge 2014 Sampler is almost a finished flimsy. Just one more row of blocks to stitch together. Once those are done, I can sew the two halves together.

I'm still contemplating border options for this quilt. Pieced borders aren't one of my favorite things to make, but that seems to be the best option for this project. I've got a few ideas mocked up in EQ, I'll play for a few days and see what comes out of that.
That's it for my design walls this week. For more in works in progress, check out all the links over at Patchwork Times.
Although I don't like to criticize this year's BH mystery didn't float my boat as much as her past mysteries. I will say yours looks spectacular. I think using the same fabric throughout really helped it. When it started I still had two older mysteries that weren't done so I didn't start. I just don't need extra UFOs hanging around the house! Is the SOS picture your quilt or the one Angela did? I like it no matter whose it is! The black sashing really sets it off. I need to decide what to do with the blocks I made last year and didn't finish.... hum, I could figure out what colors I'm missing from the picture. Brilliant! Thanks for posting this.
ReplyDeleteOh my... your Rainbow Scrap Challenge Sampler is gorgeous. The colors just pop and the blocks are so much fun to look at. It must have been a fun quilt to make. Have fun dress shopping!
ReplyDeleteI love your sampler! The blocks are great.
ReplyDeleteI have found BH's mysteries have gotten too scrappy and too large for me. You have calmed this one down by using central fabrics. Love the RSC sampler - just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThough GI is not my favorite of the mysteries, the variety of interpretations makes it more appealing. (I'm glad I made the smaller version.) Your rainbow sampler is wonderful! It really, really glows. The black sashing sets the blocks off.
ReplyDeleteI've heard a lot of negative feedback about BH's latest design. Yours seems to have more movement than others that I've seen, well done!
ReplyDeleteI love love love your rainbow sampler.
ReplyDeleteI had trouble with my fabric selection pleasing my eye for the BH Mystery this year. It was my choice so I can't blame the designer. It's BUSY like my Easy Street Celtic Solstice and Midnight Flight. She is the Queen of Scrappy! I wonder what one of Bonnie's Mysteries would look like with a rainbow effect? Did you use a pattern for the sample blocks or just choose favorites and randomly make them? So pretty!
ReplyDeleteLook at you go with the Rainbow Challenge Sampler! Glad you got some time off today -- enjoy your afternoon with DT!!! :)
ReplyDeleteBoth quilts look outstanding to me and I think your choice of colors is perfect. So I have no doubt you and DT will pick out a dress that is perfect for her.
ReplyDeleteI know you have said before, but what is your design wall made of? And how do you keep such large pieces on it? Bigger pieces seem to peel off mine, but it is only a piece of flannel hung like a curtain on the wall.
I had one daughter that was all fashion and another like your DT!! I do remember how fun these shopping days are though...I'm sure you guys had fun. Glad to know I'm not the only one who's long weekend was spent sick:(
ReplyDeleteI think both of your projects look wonderful. Using only a few fabrics instead of scrappy helps calm Grand Illusion down a bit, and your rainbow sampler is incredible!
ReplyDeleteYour sampler quilt looks great! I received EQ7 for Christmas but haven't really done anything with it yet!
ReplyDeleteHope the formal dress shopping went well.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the GI this year. I decided last year that I won't do them as a mystery - I want to see the finish first and make whatever tweaks necessary. I'm not good at mystery. ;) I hope the dress shopping went well!
