Monday Design Wall - Fixing Puzzle Pieces

It's been nice to have some down time this weekend.  Yesterday we took off for Tulsa to do some much needed summer wardrobe shopping.  Unfortunately Drama Teen wasn't feeling her best, I think she's caught a summer cold.  Thankfully she doesn't have to be anywhere for the next week, so she can just rest.  Which after the madness of finals week, is probably exactly what she needs.

I've made some progress in the sewing room this weekend.  I finally got back to working on Jigsaw and pieced three more blocks.  Then  I realized why the project had gotten stalled.  There was puzzle piece that just didn't seem to fit.

Jigsaw
pattern by Alyssa Clancy for Lehmann Quilting

It's the block marked with an X in the photo. It's too light for the row it's in.  It looks even worse with the addition of the next blocks (which I completely forgot to photograph).  After staring at it for a couple of days, I realized it might fit better in the row below.

I think that works much better.  I've un-sewn the 5 blocks affected by the move. I'm waiting to sew them back together until I get in some lighter batiks for the next row.  There's another fabric that just doesn't work and nothing in the stash works any better.  Jigsaw's not getting finished this month, but at least there's been good progress.

That's my design wall for this week.  I'm going to grab another cup of coffee and check out all the other design walls over at Patchwork Times.

  1. I love this! I bought the pattern years ago and never made it. Will have to dig it out "one day". Hope the drama teen feels much better soon. Mine is home from college for ten days and super enjoying that.

  2. Yikes, unstitching 5 blocks to move just one? EEK. But I agree 100% -- it does look better in the next row. I do like that quilt a lot.

  3. Glad you have some down time. Hope DT is feeling much better today.

It would irk me to have to unstitch and restitch, but I think I'd have done the same...because the thought of looking at an 'off' block for eternity would make me nuts. LOL

Seriously in love with this Jigsaw quilt. Truly adore it! Happy Monday, Kate!

  4. I dont think that block was glaringly wrong Kate but what you replaced it with does fit better in the flow of things.

Moving forward with this project - I still really love what you're doing with this.

  8. Glad you all enjoyed your weekend! I tend to agree with your selection of the block you mentioned. It seems to work better in it's new placement. GOOD EYE!
