Rainbow Scrap Challenge - Playing with Chocolate

It's hard to believe that it's already October and that the Rainbow Scrap Challenge is more than 80% complete.  I've had fun picking out the fabrics for the Scrappy Coffee Cup quilt.  My Guy and Drama Teen will wander into my sewing room just to check out and comment on any new blocks up on the design wall.  They had mixed feelings about this month's chocolate blocks.

I don't have a lot of brown scraps, so I had to hedge a bit.  There is a lot of these pink and brown fabrics in my scrap bag, so I decided they counted as being brown.  I wish that I had put a width of solid brown between the dots and the strips, or had placed the stripes horizontally.  I may add some rick rack or ribbon before I set this one in with the rest.

This one looks like a nice china cup that I'd like to have for real (it would complement my china pattern quite nicely).  This cup is a lot darker than what I have up on the wall to date.  But it will stay in for now, I'll wait until I have all the cups made before I decide if any cups stand out too much and need to be replaced.

Chocolate cup number 3 was the first one I thought of when this month's color was announced.

Drama Teen loves the big cats, especially tigers.  Unfortunately, the tigers in this print didn't fit the cup shape well enough to be the central motif, but she still likes this cup.

Here's what these three look like mixed in with the previous cups.

Just 9 more cups needed.  Can't wait to see what color we get to work with in November.

That's it for me this month.  Check out all the other chocolate blocks posted over at Soscrappy

  1. Each cup is so unique, but they look like they all belong together. It is turning out to be a great quilt. I like the look of the darker blocks, but there is always time to change your mind about them.

  2. Oooh, I love the teacup! I hope it stays in - I think there's enough variety in the scrapiness that it doesn't stand out too much. It's nearly as dark as the O.

  8. I also meant to ask what cup pattern you are using for your blocks? I'm a coffeeholic---may have to make a cup or three. :)

  9. I like 'em all! I'm pretty sure I have the pink and brown dot fabric you used for cup number 1, and I have the coordinating fabric in brown with pink dots. If you'd like me to send you some, I'd be happy to.

  10. Chocolate and pink is one of my absolute favourite colour combos. If you;d given me the heads up I could have sent you a plethora of scraps. I have so much brown in my stash!

The cups quilt is looking so wonderful. I love it.

And I forgot to say (on your previous post) that I'm glad you have your washing machine back! It's amazing what we take for granted till we don't have it!

  14. i LOVE looking at this project each time you post about it~!

i wonder if you could applique a single brown strip between the two fabrics? do you have enough of the pink and brown fabric to do that? it would be pretty easy applique since it's all straight lines.

    thanks for sharing.

  15. love the coffee cups. I don't think any of them look out of place or stand out or whatever it was you said. they seem to mesh really well. I too would be happy to pass along some scraps if there's a color you need.

  19. I think they look great in there and balance out all the blocks. I believe we'll probably have another dark color soon so they won't be lonely =).
